Region’s Leading Latino Group Names District 4 Candidate of Choice

MABPA (the Mexican American Business & Professional Association), a leading, longstanding voice of social development in the San Diego region, announced the endorsement of Dwayne Crenshaw for San Diego City Council’s Open District 4 Seat.

“Dwayne Crenshaw was the only candidate to really address the issues we support in our policy platform. Our members are energized by a progressive candidate who has a message that really speaks to our community,” said Josie Calderon-Scott, President of MABPA.

Crenshaw serves as the one candidate in the race with real-world experience in creating jobs and helping the community grow together. With a demonstrated track record of results, Crenshaw has a strong vision for District 4 revitalization efforts that will mirror the real needs of the District 4 community. Crenshaw has the know-how and the community connections to be an action-oriented councilmember that will be responsive to the entire community. Dwayne values diversity in his decision-making and has promised to deliver a District 4 Team that is representative of the community and that will be responsive to District 4 residents, businesses, non-profits and beyond.

District 4 needs a champion that can address the redevelopment and economic development initiatives in partnership with newly-established Civic San Diego, including ensuring the same permitting authorization that CCDC enjoyed downtown for years. Crenshaw is the stronger voice to protect the interests of Southeastern San Diego. He has a realistic vision for working with the community to advocate for needed resources in District 4.

District 4 is recognized as one of the most diverse districts in San Diego. A native of District 4 and a long-time Democrat, Crenshaw has been able to clearly articulate that he is a representative for all people, businesses, and civic organizations regardless of background. This philosophy of inclusiveness will bring direct results for District 4 in that he is a known and respected collaborator, across varied business and community sectors.

MABPA member and area resident, Dr. Guadalupe Corona had this to say about MABPA’s endorsement, “I have been able to work with Dwayne Crenshaw for over 22 years and have experienced his great leadership for coalition building, welcoming diversity to the table and being able to build a team to tackle our community’s most difficult challenges. As we embrace the changing demographics and diversity of District 4, we have an opportunity to support a candidate with a proven record in being an advocate for the voiceless, building coalitions to provide our community a stronger voice for equality and inclusion and most importantly, a voice for providing jobs and employment for our hard working families.”
