Agreement links businesses on both sides of border

Two organizations join forces to support local businesses. L-R CITD Director Victor Castillo, Higher Education Center-Otay Mesa Dean Silvia Cornejo-Darcy, CANEMEXA Board President Hector Molina, CANEMEXA member Patrick Osio, Jr. and Southwestern College Governing Board Vice President Humberto Peraza.

The San Diego Center for International Trade Development—based at Southwestern College—held a ceremonial partnership signing with Cámara de Negocios México-Americana (CANEMEXA) this past week.

The agreement formalizes support for business owners hoping to begin or expand their businesses into the international marketplace. The Center for International Trade Development (CITD) provides specialized training in import/export strategies, offers conferences, trade missions and trade shows. CANEMEXA is a chamber of commerce that helps Latino-owned businesses understand local, state and federal laws that impact their businesses.

The purpose of the partnership is to develop and foster a working relationship between the two entities to strengthen and expand international trade business development in the local region.

“The border market is a $13 billion-sized market,” said CITD Director Victor Castillo. “We are excited to expand our network of support through this strategic alliance.”

Hector Molina, the president of CANEMEXA’s board of directors, echoed Castillo’s comments.

“This partnership will be a tremendous resource to our member businesses,” Molina said. “The expertise that CITD offers is priceless.”
