“We are excited to host this event for first time in Chula Vista,” said Recreation Director, Buck Martin. “And we look forward to establishing long-term partnerships with the San Diego Sports Commission, USA Triathlon, and Port of San Diego to continue to bring new events to our city.”

In order to safely conduct the youth triathlon, temporary intermittent street closures of Bay Boulevard from H Street to L Street and segments of Marina Parkway and west J Streets will be in affect. Streets will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 6 and from 7 to 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 7.  Roads will be open to traffic in between competitions. The general public may also access the marina area via a detour to E Street/Lagoon Drive to Marina Parkway to prevent any delays. Chula Vista Police Department will be on-site to monitor traffic access throughout the duration of the event.

In addition, the Port of San Diego has permitted marina usage for the swim portion of the triathlon. In order to stage the event, the boat launch ramp at the Chula Vista Harbor will be closed from Thursday, August 3 at midnight through Sunday, August 7 at noon. An alternative boat launch is available to boaters located at Pepper Park, 3200 Tidelands Avenue in National City. To reach the Pepper Park Boat Launch, exit I-5 freeway on Mile of Cars/Bay Marina Drive and turn left on Tidelands Avenue.

Avocado Grill to Open Downtown Escondido

San Diego Cuisine is what owner Alex MacLachlan is calling the fare at his new restaurant California Avocado Grill. An avocado rancher with groves in Bonsall, MacLachlan describes his approach as “taking the good food grown here locally and making it healthier by adding lots of fresh California avocados.” He will also serve local microbrewed beers and California wines.

The Escondido native chose to open the restaurant “to create more customers for the avocado business.” And he chose Downtown Escondido because of his roots in the community. The 136 W. Grand Avenue location brings back memories of his childhood. “ I used to skateboard these streets and I had a paper route right here,” he says.

According to Sue Dusharme, Program Manager of the Downtown Business Association of Escondido, “We are excited about this new restaurant,” adding, “It’s really different than any other restaurant down here…and we have lots of great restaurants!”
