Concerts in the Park

 The City of Oceanside presents a “Concert in the Park” on Friday, August 14, at Mance Buchanan Park on 425 College Blvd.  Music will begin at 5:30 pm. The band “Upstream” will perform calypso/Caribbean music!!

 Hunter Steakhouse will sell hamburgers, hotdogs, sandwiches and sodas. The Concert is free and open to the public. Please bring your own beach chair, blanket and family members for an evening of great entertainment.

10th Annual Prose & Poetry in the Park

 San Diego Writers, Ink will hold its 10th annual Prose & Poetry in the Park event on Saturday, August 15, from 3–5 pm at the Poetry Bench in Balboa Park (Quince St., between 6th Ave. and Balboa Park Dr.). Local artist, poet and community activist Jihmye Collins will host this outdoor open mic, where writers can read their poetry and short prose pieces aloud in the summer breeze.

SWC Presents Mariachi Garibaldi
Benefit Concert to be held on Thursday, August 20th at 7:30 p.m.

 WHAT: The School of Arts and Communication Department at Southwestern College (SWC) proudly presents the 6th Annual Mariachi Garibaldi Guadalajara Benefit Concert. The Mariachi Garibaldi showcases the music department’s mariachi program directed by Dr. Jeff Nevin. The funds raised from the benefit concert will go towards funds for traveling to the famed Encuentro de Mariachi y la Charreria in Guadalajara at the end of August.

 SWC’s Mariachi Garibaldi has been invited by the Jalisco Es Uno organization to perform along with the best mariachis in the world, as one of the featured Gala performances at the well-known Teatro Degollado. The performance will mark the second time SWC’s Mariachi Garibaldi appearance with one of the Encuentro Gala performances.

 The benefit concert will feature two of SWC’s performing groups with 40 musicians, they will preview music that will be performed in Guadalajara. A sample of songs include: Mexico lindo y querido, Jurame, La fiesta del mariachi, Viva Veracruz, Viva quien sabe querer and many more. In addition, the Mariachi Garibaldi’s newly recorded double-CD will be introduced to the public and available for purchase.
