Bravo to Castañeda and Aguilar. The fanatical drug warriors in both the US and Mexico are just making a bad problem worse. It's time to move in a different direction. Prohibition of alcohol generated organized crime, drive-by shootings, and corruption. When alcohol was legalized, it was a tremendous blow to organized crime, the murder rate fell for 11 consecutive years, and the corruption of police forces by bootleggers disappeared. We should learn a lesson from that experience.

Interesante.
Two political henchmen of Pres. Fox write an apologist tome on why drugs in Mexico is not much of a problem (hah!).
This is the same Pres. Fox whose step-sons are narcos; the same Pres. Fox who turned a blind eye to narco activity in Mexico.
Ex-TJ Mayor Jorge Hank Rhon (a major narco enabler in his own right; son of Carlos Hank Gonzales another major beneficiary of the Mexican narco trade) is but one of the many examples of the alliance between narcos and politicos in Mexico (to paraphrase a USA presidential political campaign manager: "it is about the money, stupid").
Check out wwww.narconews.com for some more thorough investigative reporting on these politicos sucios. Pres. Calderon is the first and ONLY Mexican head of state to seriously oppose the evil Mexican nexus of politicos con narcos.

The war on drugs is only a failure when measured by its declared goal. This goal is only a cover-story. The real goal of the war on drugs is to provide an uneven playing-field in life, tilted against hippies, communists, and non-whites, and in favor of the powerful; retain political power in current hands; and head off any revival of the spiritual awakening that got off to a false start in the sixties. The war on drugs has been a resounding success when understood in terms of its real goal.
