Mr. Flores: What is wrong with being against ILLEGAL immigrants who are guilty of breaking federal immigration laws? Since when are we required to turn a blind eye to this problem. Since when are we required to vote into office a LAW ENFORCEMENT official who is willng to look the other way when laws are broken?

What are the rights of American citizens in Mexico? What happens when their land leases run out? Since when do Americans stick their noses in Mexican government affairs and demand that pro-American officials are elected?

I am sympathetic to the plight of some immigrants, but rather than illegally cross into this country why don't they stay in Mexico and fix whatever makes that country so bad that Mexicans want to leave it in groves??

Among Mr. Ruff's complaints about the accuracy of my piece, I want to point out that, while it may be good politics to befriend Latinos and their organizations, the more important thing are his publicly stated policy suggestions - including offering to transport undocumented persons to the border should he be the next Sheriff. Moreover, I did not hear him deny nor denounce his endorsement by anti-immigrant extremists, the San Diego Minutemen, in his last attempt to get elected Sheriff. I stand by my comments...Latinos know that his immigration policies are more in line with extremist groups than with mainstream San Diegans.

Good Evening!

My name is Bruce Ruff and I am the candidate for sheriff Mr. Flores has made some disturbing, misleading and false statements about.

I was sent the above article you have published using Bill Flores as your source of information and I'm disappointed you did not take the time to better research Mr. Flores’ statements – a phone call is all it would have taken.

Mr. Flores' assertion that: .....Ruff and LaSuer are well-known quantities in the Latino community. Both of them are arm-in-arm with the local Minutemen. Ruff has said he will “kick” suspected illegal immigrants out of the country by rounding them up, presumably without bothering to secure the necessary federal authority to do so, and driving them to the border.

I am pleased that Mr. Flores apparently is connected enough to know I am well known in portions of the the Latino community. In fact I attended the celebration of National City youth put on by the Latino Police Officer's Association and the Small Grocers Association this past month at the Elks Lodge in National City this past month.

The friends I do have in the Latino community, including relatives of mine, are very familiar with my positions on illegal immigration and resolutions and they also take great exception to what Mr. Flores asserts.

The truth is Bill Flores has never spoken with me about the matters he assert are truths. So it is impossible for him to have heard me say what he so freely shares I have said.

It is not the county sheriff's job to deport people in America illegally or otherwise - that is the duty of the federal government - period!

I will say that if there were inmates who had been adjudicated to be in need of deportation that were in America illegally, and if these inmates were in sheriff's custody, and if I were the sheriff, I would be amenable to using the sheriff's transportation resources to transport those inmates to the federal government's location(s) for the purpose of submitting those specific inmates to the proper authorities for processing.

It is not and will not be, with me as the county sheriff, the sheriff's departments mission to do any deportations whatsoever.

Mr. Flores needs to do his homework and stop making blanket statements he knows or reasonably should know are false.

My suggestion to Mr. Flores is to stop grandstanding - especially about issues you obviously are uninformed about.

I also suggest to your readers that they access my web page and read it thoroughly. I am certain they will not find, anywhere, a statement from me or otherwise that supports Mr. Flores' assertions.

I wanted you to know.

Sincerely,
Bruce Ruff
