City if Chula Vista pulled the chute on the Class Action Lawsuit for collecting taxes on cell phone usage… Chula Vista residents who can prove they were paying the tax can get a reimbursement… go the City of Chula Vista web site for info on a refund…

Of course this $8 million refund wouldn’t be necessary if they listened to Jill Galvez in ’09 when she wrote a letter to city council outlining the illegal tax…. Her hope was that the city council would do the right thing… but when you are dealing with politicians they can’t say no to the money… seems like one of the peons at city hall pushed to continue with the collection… if that person is still employed, he shouldn’t be….

There is talk of a binational Olympic bid… who is kidding who, we can’t even get a football stadium built how will they ever get stadiums, more than one, built for the summer Olympics… Just take a look at what China and England had to do to host the Olympics… me thinks Filner is dreaming a bit too big here…

CSU San Marcos students held a sit in protest Thursday, protesting the lack of accountability after sorority Alpha Chi Omega hosted a ‘chola’ themed party and posted pictures of each of their members dressed as such on the web for humor. Their concern is that the administration failed to discipline the sorority and has ignored concerns raised by students of color regarding this incident.

The San Diego Padres are back in a familiar place… last place! It has become a ‘been there, done that’ scenario same as the past couple of years. It is a painful to watch on tv to see all those empty seats, though the cameras do their best to avoid the bleachers….

By the time this paper is published on Friday the football draft will be into the late rounds. Tezzy is going to make a prediction that the Charger’s will draft a quarterback early on… Rivers is getting old, has had a couple of bad seasons, and offensive linemen don’t sell tickets… you will be able to say you heard it first here… Jajajajaj…!…hahaa! …. (update – no quarterback but they made surprise selection in the second round pick Manti Te’o)

For those who aren’t following the South Bay corruption case here is the latest update… the judge put off the case until next year, sometime in February… so lets get this straight two years after the DA brings charges the defendants will finally get their day in court… so much for a speedy trial!!!

Having to wait another year will be a huge financial drain on the defendants’ pocket books, the only ones making out are the attorneys. As time goes by, we might start seeing some of the defendants make a deal just to keep from going to the poor house.

15 folks applied for the Southwestern college vacant seat and of the 15 our best guess is that Nora Vargas will be the top choice with Rosa Maria Robles a close second….

Of the 15 applicants, one of the more interesting ones is that of Adrian Arancibia, of Taco Shop Poets fame. If we were picking he would get serious consideration… it would be nice to have someone who is more of a ‘right brain’ thinker… right brain think is one who is intuitive, thoughtful and subjective, in other words a breath of fresh air!

Hijole!!! The Lorena Gonzalez political mailer was some hot suff!!! Mi esposa was not happy about it and trashed it before I could pin it up in the garage… if that is honest government then I am all for it!!! Again… mi esposa… says she is the South Bay Anthony Weiner… quien sabe!!!

Registrar of Voters is worried that voter turnout is not going to be good, not much interest being showed in the two races… problem could be voter burnout, seems like it has been nothing but one election after another…

Speaking of elections there has already been some movement in Chula Vista over the upcoming mayor’s race and open seat on city council. Tezzy has been sworn to secrecy, but some familiar faces are lining up their ducks to make their run…

Some folks names that have been bantered about to run for CV city council, John McCann, Jose Preciado, Humberto Peraza, David Gonzalez, Jr., Burt Grossman…. So if you are thinking of running in 2014 it is not to early to start thinking about it.

Our prayers go out to Chunky Sanchez and his family, he is in the hospital trying to fight back to good health!!!

Seems they did not agree to the terms of his retirement. With San Ysidro in debt they didn’t feel he deserved the money he was seeking….

Terms of the Manuel Paul resignation will be revealed in May, should be interesting reading.

Chicano community is hoping that newly elected Sidro school board member, Jose Barajas, grows a pair… and starts standing up for the children and district… so far he has been a great disappointment standing with the status quo… if we knew this was the way it was going to be we would have never endorsed him…

Last note on Sidro school board: Barajas, Board President Jason M-B Wells and trustee Jean Romero were served with recall papers at the last board meeting. The community is pretty upset with, not the vote to accept the resignation papers of Paul, but for the perceived overly generous retirement package he will receive…. they feel Paul should not receive anything in light of him being caught accepting $2500 cash from a contractor doing business with the district.

844 page immigration reform bill, hijole that is a lot of pages, which means you can expect a lot of changes… don’t forget this is just the starting point and it goes down hill from here.

An interesting note on the reform bill, Marco Rubio, before a group of teaparty protestors vowed that no immigrant will become a citizen until the border is secure…

Five of the seven defeated candidates lined up behind Dwayne Crenshaw in the district 4 special election, including the lone Hispanic candidate, Blanca Lopez-Brown. This doesn’t bode well for Myrtle Cole….

A little brouhaha dusted up between the candidates for the 80th district, Steve Castañeda and Labor leader Lorena Gonzalez… seems Castañeda took issue with Gonzalez designating herself as a community organizer stating that this is misleading… evidently Gonzalez had to face political reality, that Union organizer doesn’t get you votes…

We have gotten many, many complaints about the fact that Tezzy was no longer being published… well he is back, Tezzy is back after a hiatus and ready to go.

Remember former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford who went for a walk in the mountains and was considered lost for a week only to find out he was in Argentina with his mistress…. Well he is on the comeback trail… after resigning his governor’s seat in ’09, he is now in line to win the race for the 1st Congressional District within this solidly Republican district special election… election day is May 7th . What does this say about our politics… unfortunately not much!!!

San Ysidro school board voted to accept Manuel Paul’s letter of resignation, this after he was filmed accepting $2500 from a contractor who was trying to get work from the district. The board voted 3-2 to accept the resignation… the real question is why did Yolanda Hernandez and Antonio Hernandez vote to keep him as their Superintendent… what were they thinking????

The South Bay corruption case should get moving after the arraignment trail today, April 12. The public will get a closer look at the case and if any deals are to be made we will soon hear about it…

One last bit on San Ysidro school district it looks like they are about $9 million dollars in the hole according to the smoke signals blowing from that direction and that money will have to be paid back in two years… I guess that is what happens when you are flimflammed by someone selling solar panels that don’t exist…

One little aspect that gets glossed over when it comes to a path to citizenship and that is the cost. Right now they are pegging that cost at $20 billion…. That works out to $2000 per applicant…. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano vowed that the immigrants will have to bear the cost and that is not counting any fines are back taxes that have long suggested as a part of the immigration reform package…

Mayor-elect Bob Filner won because of the Hispanic vote… Now we will see if he includes a Hispanic, one Hispanic, in his kitchen cabinet… not some glorified position but a position of importance…

So far Filner has selected Vince Hall as chief of staff and Donna Frye to something called director of open government (shouldn’t government already be open???) and he has keep on his chief of police, chief of the fire department, the chief operating office… so far no Hispanics….

The 4th council seat will be vacant come Dec. 31 when Tony Young steps down for a better paying job, just goes to show politicians don’t see this as serving the community but as a job, in most cases the only job they can get that pays that much, with all those benefits…

The 4th district became a little more solidified when they redrew the districts and carved out some of the more prominent Hispanic areas of the district making it more favorable for the Black community. So far Myrtle Cole of the UDW – The Homecare Providers Union and Brian Pollard a small business owner and one time candidate for the same seat have announced their candidacy.

Juan Vargas’ seat is open now that he is replacing Bob Filner in Congress which will cause all kinds of political fallout. Hueso runs for Vargas state senate seat, Steve Castañeda and Lorena Gonzalez run for Hueso’s Assembly seat… we shall see. All we know is that the political season is not yet over…

Soak City in Chula Vista will soon become Aquatica, SeaWorld’s Waterpark, does that mean they will start selling beer there??? SeaWorld parks were owned by Anheuser Busch which is now owned by some German beer company… our beer company got outsourced???? Anyway, maybe now, that park will start making some money for Chula Vista.

Mayor Sanders is spending his last few days in office making the rounds, sort of a victory lap for doing a good job. Don’t know if he did a good job or not, but we won’t forget the time he went on air and praised the minute men for going out into the fields and canyons and rousting the workers camp sites, trashing them trying to run them out… qué lástima! That and the San Ysidro massacre we will never forget…. don’t care if he did a good job as mayor or not, everyday we see his face it just reminds us…

Sanders will soon be the CEO of the regional chamber, which explains why Ruben Barrales quit or asked to leave. Sanders is going to be making some big bucks, what with his retirement pay from being chief of police, retirement pay from being mayor, and now his salary as CEO of the chamber, Barrales made over $300,000 per year… talk about pulling down some change…

Filner has always wanted to be mayor and he waited for the right opportunity, and he won. Of course he had the help of Carl DeMaio who ran a polarizing campaign which didn’t sit well with the middle of the road voters.

Another mistake DeMaio made was that he wasn’t able to get the Gay community behind him. He made the mistake of alienating that community by telling them he wasn’t a Gay candidate but a candidate for all of San Diego, that and the fact he got cozy with Roger Hedgecock who spends much of his time bashing the Gay community….

DeMaio gave up his council seat to run for mayor so now he has only days left on the city council and already is looking for his next gig… Towards that end he wrote a piece about saving the Republican Party that appeared in an Orange County newspaper… in Orange County DeMaio will find a lot more like minded folks up there, so don’t be surprised if DeMaio moves north!

What can you say about San Ysidro, it has always been sort of a forgotten part of the City that seems to operate in their own little world. Corruption seems to be a way of life down there going way back… this latest pedo is just another of many. Of course this one is a little spicer with boardmember Marquez-Maden looking for a contractor to buy her a home…. At least she is not going to go down for measly $2500.

Community calling wanting to know what to do about the situation, yo no digo nada, just watch the rats run around as they rush to tell their side of the story to the FBI so that don’t get caught up in this mess…. if the FBI is involved that is a federal offense and they don’t play games, the local politicos don’t have much pull with the Feds as they would with a local district attorney let’s say for example….

Last we heard Brand hasn’t showed up to work lately, cancelled meetings, and no longer taking phone calls… sounds like someone who has quit…. sounds like a good time to move on.

The hard core group of anti-Brand, anti-school board, showed little class at school board meeting when they heckled John McCann for calling for the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence in honor of 9-11… heckling in support of Bertha Lopez. Hey, it is okay to not like someone, but that doesn’t excuse bad manners…

There were high hopes for the La Raza Unida convention in Texas but it turns out there wasn’t much interest in ancient history. A good time to reminisce with the old guard but no new movement coming out of this gathering….

With Manchester now owning all the news all the time now it kind of reminds me of the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies with his nemesis media baron Elliot Carver who tries control the world through the media….

With the U-T supporting the Republican Party, what are the Democrats to do???? Of course our suggestion is it is time to start supporting media such as La Prensa and help build it up in order to have a voice, one thing you know for sure you will never get a fair shake in the new U-T, just ask Bob Filner.

George Cameron, ex-Superintendent of National City School District, had a change of heart about running for Sweetwater school board against Pearl Quiñones. Heard from grapevine that he tried to withdraw his name but was too late for that. He did withdraw his ballot statement.

Quiñones is coming out fighting for her seat on the Sweetwater Union High School District. She claims charges against her are a fabrication and she will prevail. She will face off against two other candidates in what should be an interesting race.

Facing a much tougher race in Sweetwater will be Bertha Lopez… looks like the powers to be are lining up behind San Diego Charger ex-football player Burt Grossman. There won’t be a lack on money in this race. Grossman will have star treatment being an ex-football player and football season in full swing… the only thing that may derail him is if the Chargers have a lousy start to the season…

Everyone asking why Lopez is not part of the indictment… quién sabe, rumors abound that she is being very cooperative with the DA but we have no inside info just rumors…. Sometimes where there is smoke…

El jefe is thinking that it is time to stop his subscription to the UT which has gone ultra-right wing… it was always a Republican rag but now the pretense is gone and its bias is on full display with frontpage editorials….

They call her the “Hispanic Oprah” which is news to us but Cristina Saralegui will be one of the Hispanic speakers at the Democratic Convention… how come I am not impressed. Other speakers include Texas Mayor Julián Castro… nobody scheduled from Califas… talking about taking us for granted.

There is so much wrong here it has hard to know where to start….

“National Latino Advocate & Communications Advisor Joins DeMaio Campaign” so the headline read… K.B. Forbes is this national latino advocate, that we have never heard of before, but it is interesting that Carl DeMaio, who has vowed to uphold the law and have the city police start checking for papers and other anti-Hispanic rhetoric… if this is the kind of advice this national leader is sharing… well good luck with that…

Former Padre owner John Moores is laughing all the way to the off shore bank. This guy bought the Padres for something like $80 million and sold it for almost a Billion… plus add in all the real estate he got when the taxpayers paid to build the ballpark downtown…

Funny how the Padre ballpark was a regional benefit to community and why the taxpayer should foot the bill… now that a very rich person just got way richer, none of the profit went to paying back the taxpayer for the ballpark…. This is the republican idea of the trickle down economics… not much a trickle!!!!

Sweetwater school board got into hot water with the last superintendent and his severance package and now they are trying to avoid making the same mistake…. Brands’ contract is up for renewal and he wants it now with little public input…. The numbers are pretty high somewhere over the $250k per year and with plenty of perks… according to the new state law this process needs to be transparent… Monday the 20th’s board meeting should be interesting…

Carl DeMaio crowed that former Democrat Party Chair, Art Castañares, had come aboard uniting the community… Castañares is no more Democrat than my mezcal is for medicinal purposes only. Castañares was a democrat years ago but that is a distant memory…

Castañares once told el Jefe a long time ago that part of the reason he was a Republican was because the Democrats are happy to run a good race based on ideals and lose, while Republicans run to win…

Castañares has had many ups and downs in his career… his latest flim flam was selling the San Ysidro School District a multi-million dollar contract to install solar panels, and not installing one panel, years later, when the district finally caught on and cancelled the contract. Castañares sued the district for $16 million for breach of contract. I guess the fact that not one panel had been installed over a 4 year period or the fact that Castañares’ company is not actually in the solar business does not seem to be an issue with Castañares….

There is an old saying you can tell the type of man a person is by the people you surround yourself with…. This goes a long way in describe DeMaio….

National City Senior Services Center had a water main break disaster this week running the offices and food services building which meant that National City seniors would be stuck eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches… to the rescue came the Neighborhood House Association whose kitchen services stepped up and will provide the seniors with their meals until the Senior Services program is back on the feet….

Anaheim protesting over the shooting of a Hispanic in the back is not an isolated incident… trouble like this happens over time… tensions build until finally the community says: ya basta!

Same thing happened in Vista when the sheriffs shot three Hispanics over a five day period in 2005… anger simmered until it blew-up months later at a May Day immigration rally and it erupted into violence…

Little noted in the Mitt Romeny gaff over the cultural difference between Israel and Palestine was that Mitt also described the difference between Mexico and the United States on the same cultural terms terms: “I find a dramatic, intense difference in economic vitality. And that is also true of other countries that are near each other or together, Chile and Ecuador, Mexico and the United States.”

If Mitt considers Mexico culturally inferio this doesn’t bode well for US/Mexico relations if Mitt is elected President…

Another spanish-language newspaper bites the dust. The New York Daily News laid off their three Latino staffers of its weekly Spanish-language publication, Hora Hispana and then shut the edition down all together.

Our amiga Diana Gomez celebrated a first of sorts. Turns out she is donating her brain to the Brain Institute at UCSD, this will be the first bilingual brain donated. That brain is going to keep them confounded for a while. Check it out if you would like to donate your brain…. http://thebrainobservatory.ucsd.edu/content/aliens-brain

Just in case you are wondering, Diana is alive and well and it will be a while before the doctors get their hands on her cabeza….

It turns out that political consultant and lobbyist Art Castañares sold the San Ysidro School District a bill of goods… how come this doesn’t surprise us. We don’t know is more at fault Castañares for being a flimflam salesman or the school board that signed a $17 million dollar contract from someone who had absolutely nothing to sell. That must have been one hell of a sales meeting. That was four years ago and San Ysidro is still waiting for the first panel to go up. We have to thank Susan Luzzaro for reporting the San Ysidro story, she does a great job in covering the south bay.

Quite a gathering at the Al Alvarado’s birthday party with a lot of politicos showing up, Jim Bates former congressman, Al and Denise Ducheny not looking to happy after coming in 3rd in their congressional race, Pamela Bensoussan, looks like red is her favorite color, Mayor Ron Morrison, and many others that came and went before this old Viejo got there.

Chunky Sanchez had to take a visit to the hospital and spend a few days at a convelesant home. He is feeling better now but a close call.

Director Robert Rodriguez is making the squeal to “Machete” calling it “Machete Kills” sequel, has already begun filming in Texas, starring Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Sofia Vergara … Charlie Sheen is in negotiations to play the U.S. president in the film. Is Rodriguez calling his shot with the presidential election? Sheen a white guy playing the president? Guess Rodriguez is betting that Obama will be out of office….

New York Rep. Charles Rangel’s margin of victory in the primary has shrunk to about an 800 vote lead. How this guy is surviving is beyond este Indio what with the huge ethics scandel last year. Just goes to show politics is not a science…

With the show me your papers portion of SB 1070 upheld there are two different answers to the question when asked by the Arizona migra… we mean police…. when they ask you for papers:

Plan 1: Orale Raza, it’s time to take action. I am calling on all my Arizona brothers and sisters to act in defiance of Arizona’s draconian SB1070 rule of law that was justified by the U.S. Supreme Court. If you look “illegal” you will be stopped, questioned, harassed, detained, … this is racial profiling and it is wrong. My idea is that we must break this unjust law’s back by overwhelming the system. We can beat Governor Janet Brewer at her own game by forcing all Arizona law enforcement agencies to comply with the law ten thousand fold.

I am encouraging all Arizonans to “dress the part” and give them what they want. Everyone must work together and start wearing suspicious looking clothing every day and everywhere. Doing so will overwhelm police agencies throughout the state by forcing them to question everyone’s legal status, whether they like it or not. Then we’ll see how long the people of Arizona are willing to put up with this needless, worthless law before they get tired and do away with it. Contact your friends and family to join in and make this work. It can be done. “Si se puede”.

Plan 2: The American Civil Liberties Union says that I”f you think you were treated unfairly by the police, write down everything that happened. If police asked to see your papers, try to remember how long you were stopped for. The Supreme Court said that police cannot keep you for a long time just to check your immigration status. For people in Arizona: if a police officer delayed your release while he or she checked your status or if you believe you were asked about your immigration status based on your race, ethnicity, or ability to speak English, let us know by calling 855-737-7386. The ACLU wants everyone to remember “no matter where you live or whether the law is in effect, you have certain Constitutional rights if you are stopped by police—even if you don’t have papers.

Day after election observations:

Denise Ducheny can now go down to margarita ville and relax, and not worry about any more ugly mailers. Her political career came to a crashing end getting only 14% of the vote.

Rudy Ramirez ran a lackluster race for 79th Assembly seat and it showed with him getting only 11% of the vote. Ramirez’ political career is now on life support…. Will he have enough political life left to run for mayor of Chula Vista?… Quién sabe.

Incumbent Pamela Bensoussan came in second behind Republican Larry Breitfelder. This doesn’t bode well for Bensoussan, as an incumbent should have been in the 40-45% voter approval, instead came up second with 33% of the vote. The general will depend on who runs the best campaign…

Mary Salas almost made it in the primary getting 48.5% of the vote… just three hundred more votes and she would have won ought right… now she has to go to the general against fellow Democrat Linda Wagner… Wagner is looking up a big hill to overcome!

Mateo Camarillo only got 2700 votes, there are a few more that will come in the next few days but still pretty bad in a two person race. Looks like the new 9th district has a way to go before it becomes the Hispanic district that Mateo envisioned. Most other politicos see this district more as a hodgepodge of various ethnicities that will never allow it to become a Hispanic district.

Lori Saldaña once again ran a courageous race and is in a close battle with Scott Peters who greatly out spent her, we heard he loaned his campaign 1.5 million dollars. The race is too close to call; who ever comes out ahead will then have to face Brian Bilbray. We have our fingers crossed.

Bob Filner versus Carl DeMaio this should be interesting. Bob is going to have to get the Democratic Party to come together in San Diego if he is going to win. Too many Democrats either stayed away or went over to the Fletcher camp. We will see what kind of politician Filner is in the next few months… if he can get everybody on the same page he has a great chance of pulling this off.

Last Note: Labor took it on the chin once again… Labor needs to regroup, focus and come out swinging at achievable goals… when Labor loses… the workers lose!

It is now called the “Living Coast Discovery Center.” … qué lástima, with the Chula Vista Nature Center you at least knew where the center was located… now who knows.

CV city council is looking into getting the city back into the name, but like with most naming rights looks like it is going to cost the city some big bucks….

The Chicano Federation has fallen on hard times, looks like their Head Start program is defunct and there is a loss of leadership… Victor Salazar who used to head the board has moved over to CEO, nice guy but not much experience in running an organization.

The question we are asking ourselves, if the Chicano Federation goes away will anyone notice? The Federation has not been relevant for quite a while now…

Denise Ducheny is making a last minute push with her campaign for Congress, but she took a pretty big hit when Juan Vargas mailed his hit piece with her mug shot after a DUI arrest in Sacramento, and a list of other police encounters…. Could be a little too late for Ducheny…

Not much Ducheny could say about the flyer with her mug shot… facts are facts…

There doesn’t seem to be much excitement for this year’s election… you don’t see nearly as many yard signs as we have in the past, and the mail in ballot count is down early on… it could be that Romeny has the lose ends tied up and the fact most of the candidates are all retreads… whatever happened to young politicians???

Qué pasó with Sweetwater school policy of failing one class and middle school student doesn’t get to participate in graduation activities??? District fails to take into account student effort, attendance, and homework and the fact that not all students are good test takers…. So their answer is to punish these students… This is what happens when the only thing that counts is the test.

This is like the old days where schools created the dummy track and once on it you never got off it…

The dog whisper, Cesar Millan, it was noted after his recent divorce, earns a cool $170,000 per month… can you imagine that much money training dogs… don’t see him much on television anymore so he must be doing a lot whispering to a lot of dogs…

Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” visited Baja California. He was joined by Pepe Mogt of the Nortec Collective. The show first aired on May 28 but will repeat on June 4 at 5 pm and June 5 at 12 am for those insomniacs.

In a recent ranking CV held 3 of the top 5 spots for most default notices, including the #1 spot and 3 of the top 5 spots for foreclosures, Campo took the #1 spot. How come the politicians aren’t talking about solving this problem???

Campaign shenanigans: seems the campaign offices of Mary Salas and Pamela Bensoussan are scouring the high school campuses offering 400 hours of community service hours to come and work at their campaign offices…. Politics teaching kids at an early age that cheating is okay… in the name of politics.

Looks like the San Ysidro Health Center is going big time after they bought the office building, which the UT used to occupy, once owned by Jim Pieri on 3rd Ave in Chula Vista. Looks like La Prensa will have new neighbors… wonder if we should take them a plate of cookies…

Denise Ducheny is trying to kick start her campaign for Congress in the waning weeks, but she took a pretty big hit when Juan Vargas mailed his hit piece with her mug shot after a DUI arrest in Sacramento, and a list of other police encounters…. Come on Crossroads you have to come up with something better than a boat yard as an attraction….

Time Magazine made it official; Hispanics will pick the next President…..

Lorena Gonzalez was re-elected Secretary-Treasurer/CEO of the San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council, guess this means she won’t be running for public office any time soon… que lastima!

The worst case scenario came to past this past week in Tuscon, AZ where camouflaged gunmen shot two immigrants as they crossed the border… vigilantes killing people for wanting to work in the US….
Speaking of a warning, our favorite gal pal, Gracia Molina de Pick, you might have seen her on the frontpage last week in honor of Women’s History Month, had a little warning last week when she suffered a mild stroke…. She is doing much better, and called this a warning as well….

Not so good is Rush Limbaugh with his radio show on life support as he tries to survive the latest case of foot-in-mouth when he called a woman testifying before Congress a “slut”… seems most, if not all, advertisers have dumped him…

Went to the first debate of the year for Chula Vista city council race and the first thing we noticed was that the crowd was a bit different that the old crowd that used go to these things…. that is good news. The candidates still pretty much sound the same. Looked like Pamela Bensoussan was the target of most of the attacks… looks like she is going to spending a lot of her time defending herself….

News this week that Pamela Bensoussan, a democrat, is receiving support from the Lincoln Club, a right wing Republican group…. that and the support of mayor Cherly Cox pretty much makes Bensoussan a democrat in name only….

City of Escondido under the microscope… Journalist John Frye did an investigative report on the police using the DUI stops as a thinly veiled immigrant dragnet and the ensuing towing charges as a way to raise money for the city…. want to read the report and view the video follow this link: http://www.aclusandiego.org/news_item.php?article_id=001248

The anti-Mexican sentiment in Arizona knows no boundaries. Senate committee passed a bill that would create and fund an armed militia along the Arizona-Mexico border. Que estupidos those vatos, don’t see the inherit danger in putting a milita along the border.

All Mexicans and Mexican Americans should leave that desert state and then let us see what happens; that place will go to hell without the Mexican labor taking care of all those old folks who retired there, then they will have to take out their own garbage and mow their own lawns….

Things won’t change in Arizona until the Hispanic community gets out, votes those racist out and get some leveled headed leaders elected….

You just gotta love Arizona, it would be a slow news day without them.

In Arizona, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu who made a name for himself riding the back of the illegal immigrant issues got busted when his immigrant lover came forward claiming Babeu threatened him with deportation if he ever disclosed their relationship…. Babeu figured it wouldn’t look good in his run for Congress. He later admitted he was Gay and that he had a personal relationship with Jose…. Guess this means that Babeu blew his chance to become a congressman….

Babeu also had to drop his role as presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s state campaign co-chair…

Looks like the South Bay Forum is going down for the count…. Next month they will hold their last meeting. An organization with good intentions but, apparentlyl lost steam…

Northwest Civic Association will be holding the first candidate’s forum for Chula Vista this coming March 14th at the central library. It should be interesting…

The San Diego Voice & Viewpoint will be hosting a mayoral forum for the City of San Diego on March 8 at the Jacobs Center from 6:30 to 8:30.

Cruz Bustamante who used to be lieutenant governor, then lost his race for governor, and later lost his race for insurance commission, is thinking of running for congress in the newly created 21st district in the valley/Fresno, Kings, Kern counties.

We don’t want to say that city council person Pamela Bensoussan is disliked in Chula Vista, but…. there is a registered political group raising money called “Anybody But Pamela.” Hijole this could be an interesting race and not your usual shoe-in for the incumbent.

Retired Judge Larry Stirling wrote a scathing commentary on Chicano Park in the Business Journal among other things pretty much blaming the park for the trillion dollar deficit facing the nation… kind of a stretch. El jefe will respond to this misguided piece of journalism…

Been quiet on the Sweetwater School Board front… we are still waiting to see if the DA come forth with any further indictments??? We also heard one board member is considering a second mortgage to fund her defense, we hope it doesn’t get that bad for her, it is only politics and sooner or later it all comes to an end, not worth the possibility of losing your home…

Scott Peters who is running for congress scored a coupe when he received the support of several Latinos including Lorena Gonzalez of the AFL-CIO, Assemblyman Ben Huseo, candidate Mary Salas, CV councilman Steve Castaneda, and the Chicano Democratic Association…. the only thing is we don’t remember Peters ever doing anything for the Hispanic community when he was SD city council person… hell we went on his web site and we didn’t see him mention Hispanic community once… we wonder what the criteria was to earn those endorsements….

Lori Saldana, who is in the same race as Peters, is Hispanic and supportive of the Hispanic community when she served in the assembly, seemingly this wasn’t good enough…

Mateo Camarillo who is half Filipino and Mexican, has decided to run for the district 9 seat. This is the district that he carved out that is supposed to a Hispanic power house… unfortunately no Hispanic saw it this way and none file to run… Mateo is out to prove them all wrong…..

Bob Castaneda, older brother of CV city councilman Steve Castaneda, has taken out papers to run the CV city council, running for the seat held by Pamela Bensoussan…

The Arizona Supreme Court recently ended the political career of Alejandrina Cabrera who wanted to run for city council in the border town of San Luis, AZ, because she no habla English good enough. Then again most of the residents of San Luis no habla English…. Still you have got to know English if you are going to run for office…

Accountability is a buzz word we hear all the time. That is why the voters passed a law that held politicians accountable when it comes to passing a real budget. Seems they don’t like that so they are suing so that next time they pass a crappy budget the State Controller won’t dock their pay…

Last week’s editorial about Mayor Sanders, his State of the City speech, and his disregard for Hispanic communities received a bit of attention. Univision wanted to tape a segment about it with the Mayor, but it didn’t happen… the mayor choose not to respond… qué lástima, only goes to prove the point of the editorial… Sanders not responsive to this community…

A lot of political movidas in the South Bay: Mary Salas is now in a tough race with Linda Wagner throwing her hat into the race. Wagner has been Councilman Castaneda’s aide and campaign manager. She has already received some big time support from the Chula Vista community

Councilman Steve Castaneda it is said is eying the Assembly seat race, as is Ed Valario, and according to the rumor mill Union president Lorena Gonzalez will move into the South Bay to run for Assembly…. Los hombres de South Bay would welcome Gonzalez into the South Bay with open arms, muy guapa!!!

On the good news front: Humberto Peraza from the Southwestern Community College board flexed a bit of political muscle when he got his proposal to limit campaign contributions through committee. The issue will come before the full board in February… the right thing to do would be to pass it….
