Independent filmmaker Louis Hock will present La Mera Frontera and The Mexican Tapes: A Chronicle of Life Outside the Law as a part of the Cal State San Marcos Arts and Lectures series at 5:30 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2005, in the Arts Building, Room 240.
La Mera Frontera is a 90-minute narrative in which a dead victim of the 1918 border conflict between Nogales, Arizona, and Nogales, Mex-ico, returns six decades later to investigate.
The Mexican Tapes chronicles a two year span of Hock’s experience in a humble north San Diego County apartment community were some 80 Mexican workers resided and lived in constant fear of the Immigration and Naturalization Service. This film provides first-hand testimonies of the workers’ regular illegal border crossings.
Hock is a visual arts professor at University of California San Diego.
