This Week In Jaguar Sports

Chula Vista— Water polo coach Jennifer Harper head-ed back to the pool this week at Miramar, and brought a couple of guys with her. Harper, the women’s water polo coach for the past two seasons, decided to take over the men’s team as well.

“I was tired of seeing it not be the program that it could be,” said Harper, who reworked the schedule to avoid any conflicts. “We want the two programs to be committed and supporting of one another.”

The women’s team (1-0, 2-3) opened conference play with an 11-8 win over over the Jets. Sophomore Neshmil Ariy had six goals to push her season total to 24. As a freshman, last year Ariy was fourth in the state with 91 goals.

The men’s team (0-1) lost their conference opener to the Jets, 11-3. Joel Larimer scored two goals in the loss.

Both teams host Palomar and San Diego Mesa, on Tuesday and Thursday respectively, and the men’s team will play in the San Diego Mesa tournament over the weekend…

Women’s soccer team won their first game of the season. The Lady Jaguars (1-4) defeated the 2002 Foothill Conference champions, 2-1 at home last week. Mid-fielder Rachel Rios had one goal. Women’s soccer team will host Grossmont on Wednesday, Sept. 24…

SWC’s Women’s cross country duo of Rose Serna and Yvonne Li pick up where they left off last year. Serna (20:35.9) and Li (22:07. 14) finished first and second at the Ventura Invitational last Friday.
