The La Jolla Chamber Music Society is presenting the world renowned American Ballet Theatre on September 14, 15 and 16 at the San Diego Civic Theatre. Giselle will be performed on the 15th and 16th. Best of Show at Kit Carson Park
The San Diego Chamber Orchestra has announced an encore "Best Of" performance on September 15, at Kit Cars-on Park's open-air amphitheater in Escondido. Your entire family can experience the culture and exciting diversity of music while enjoying an evening under the stars and a picnic dinner. The $35 picnic table seats include dinner and complimentary wine. Stadium seating is $12 for adults and $5 for children. Lawn seats are available for $5 for adults and $2 for children.
The performances will include a collection of favorites from the Latin Fever, Fas-cinatin' Rhythm, Hollywood USA and Passport to the World shows featuring 11 year-old violin prodigy, Eugene Ugorski. Doors for the concert will open at 5:30 p.m. and two hours of local high school pre-show entertainment will begin at 6:00. The San Diego Pops will take the stage at 8:00 p.m. performing Mariachi, Flamenco, Tango, Salsa, favorites from George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Star Wars, Titanic, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and music from Europe, Africa and the Far East.
Indian Days Celebration
You are cordially invited to attend the Eighteenth California Indian Days Celebration, held Friday, Sept. 14 through Sunday, September 16 in San Diego's Balboa Park, at the corner of Park Blvd. and Presidents Way. There will be performances, demonstrations, arts and crafts booths by California Indians. Admission is free for all events and it is suggested that you bring your own shade and chairs.
This year's event has an exceptional program featuring California Indian dance group, singers, demonstrators, and artisans from across the state. There will be over 50 booths featuring American Indian artists, authentic hand-crafted jewelry, pottery, beadwork, American Indian food booths featuring delicious frybread, Indian tacos, tamales, door prizes and much more.
Blast to the Past
Featuring music, dancing and classic cars from the 50's and 60's. Performances by local bands will provide a nostalgic setting for rock `n roll enthusiasts. The event will be held September 16 from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on the El Cajon Boulevard Plaza Deck located on the overpass above Interstate 15. Admission is FREE.
The performers include: The Heroes, they will focus on hits from the 60's Motown, Oldies, Classic Rock, R&B and Funk. The Mar Dels, they will perform renditions of the best music from Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly or The Stray Cats. For general information, call 283-3608. American Red Cross Blood Services invites the public to give blood when the bloodmobile visits Fiesta Del Barrio at Roosevelt St. & Walnut Ave., Carlsbad, Sunday, September 16 from 10:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. All participants will be awarded a Hawaiian Print "Brighten A Life" T-shirt. Each donor also will receive a medical history review and mini-physical which includes blood pressure, pulse, temperature and an iron level check. A good meal is recommended prior to donation. San Diego Public Library will host a screening of Sixteen Decisions, on Monday, September 17 at 6:00 PM in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Central Library located at 820 E Street. Set against the backdrop of circumstance and traditional culture, a group of rural Bangladeshi women shows how a $60 micro-loan can significantly alter an otherwise economically oppressive condition. Selena, an 18 year-old rural housewife was a child laborer at 7 because her parents were too poor to feed her. Her parents arranged for her marriage at 12 and sold their land for dowry, leaving themselves as beggars when her father lost his eyesight. This preview screening is FREE to the public.
Las Lanchas Más Rápidas del Mundo
Del 14 al 16 de septiembre en la bahía de Mission Bay en San Diego, se celebrará la Serie Mundial San Diego Bayfair. Este evento se considera la mejor carrera de lanchas más rápidas del mundo, correrán en diferentes categorías lanchas tipo NJBA Drag Boats, Super Stocks, Offshore Monsters, Unlimited Lights, Stock Hydros y por supuesto Hydroplanes. Dentro del evento se otorgará también la Copa Budweiser Bill Muncey.
