Arts Funding Workshops Presented by Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office

The City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office will hold a series of workshops in September on how to qualify for arts funding by the city. The annual Community Arts Grants Program awards funds for projects taking place in Carlsbad. Not-for-profit organizations, schools and school-related organizations and individual artists in partnership with community groups may apply. Funding for the Grants Program amounts to $19,000 for the year 2003.

Three Grant Application workshops will be held:

Tuesday, September 17 at 5:00 p.m. at the Cole Library, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive.

Monday, September 16, and Monday, September 23, at 4:00 p.m. at the Carlsbad Library Meeting Room, 1775 Dove Lane.

The grant applications submission deadline is Monday, October 21, 2002.

The Community Arts Grant Program is designed to help strengthen local arts organizations and to provide cultural and artistic opportunities for Carlsbad citizens. Funds are only awarded for projects occurring in Carlsbad in the year 2003. A peer review panel will make recommendations regarding funding to the Carlsbad Arts Commission for ratification. Announcement of grants awarded will occur by mid-December. Applications and guidelines are available at the Carlsbad Arts Office, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92008. Eighth Annual Passport to the Future

The Eighth Annual Passport to the Future and Trade Show will take place on Wednesday, September 19th, on National City’s waterfront at 32nd and Marina Way. The event, including a Trade Show and Luncheon, will run from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Keynote speaker will be Joan Dean, Assistant Deputy Director, California Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency. The event is sponsored by: Port of San Diego, City National City, County of San Diego, National City Chamber of Commerce, Pasha Services and San Diego World Trade Center.

Westside Escondido Holds Health Fair

CommUNITY Fair to offer free health screenings and highlight community strengths

The North County Collabora-tives, the Health and Human Services Agency, the City of Escondido, Blue Cross of California, and other community organizations, will host a CommUNITY Fair Celebration in the Westside area of Escondido to address important health issues and celebrate the strengths of this diverse community.

The event will feature various booths offering free resource information and assessments for some of the most urgent health and safety concerns of Westside community residents. Families will be able to apply for health insurance, receive immunization record assessments, have hearing, vision, and diabetes screenings, obtain child identification/fingerprinting, and receive other valuable resource information.

WHEN: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

WHERE: Westside Park, 330 Spruce Street, Escondido

Westside Park has recently undergone major renovation. This event will help recognize community leaders and residents who helped turn the park into a fun and safe community gathering place. The fair will also serve as a community commemoration of Mexican Independence Day in an effort to foster community strength by addressing important health and safety issues.
