Sherman Heights Community Center Celebrates “Fiestas Patrias Recordando”

On September 11, 2002, 12 noon to 6:00 p.m., 2258 Island Ave., residents and community members of the Sherman Heights Community and surrounding neighborhoods of Golden Hill, Logan Heights and Greater San Diego will come together at its Annual Street Festival “Fiestas Patrias” to remember Mexican Independence Day “Recordando Mexico.”

At 5:00 p.m. will be the special “El Grito” the Cry of Independence led by the Mexican Consul. We will also have moments of remembrance for all the victims and families of the September 11, tragedy. We are proud to be a part of this Great Country of diversity are able to celebrate our history, and our heroes. So this is a very Special Day.

The day will be filled with difference ballet folkloricos, mariachi, music, neighborhood singers, information booths, food, drinks and a lot of good health neighborly interactions and community building. We here in the Sherman Heights Community really enjoy our street festivals and have a grand time! Each year our events are such positive experiences which make us proud to be part of this community. Come and join the fun!

The Sherman Heights Community Center is an intergenerational, nonprofit organization founded in 1986. Its purpose is to provide grow opportunities for families and individuals in order to tap into their natural abilities, improve the quality of life, be a voice, and build community. The mission of the Community Center is to serve and offer programs in education, health personal development, and culture that will enable area residents to development to their greatest human potential. Full participation in our democratic society is encouraged cultural diversity is valued and heritages and traditions are appreciated.
