Community Notes:

IB Public Safety Day Saturday to be Held on September 14

At 10:00 a.m. a dramatic opening ceremony will honor those that lost their lives at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. The ASTREA helicopter will deliver the American flag by landing on Pier Plaza. A Sheriff’s Deputy will deliver the flag to an antique fire engine, flanked by uniform personnel from several safety departments. The flag procession will slowly move south along Seacoast Drive to the sound of a bell’s toll. The company will present the colors to government officials followed by a moment of silence.

The annual event continues throughout the day until 3 p.m. Pier Plaza will be filled with educational and family activities including a vehicle rescue demonstration, public safety dog demonstration, a bicycle rodeo and a lifeguard rescue by helicopter. Chula Vista’s firehouse will also be on display, in addition to informational booths from the D.A.R.E. program, the San Diego County Sheriffs Department, the Citizens Adversity Strike Team, the California Highway Patrol and the U.S. Border Patrol. Fire engines from Bonita, Chula Vista, Coronado, National City, San Diego and Imperial Beach will also be on display. Entrance is free and open to the public. For more information, call the City of Imperial Beach at 619/423-8223.
