LA’s Mexican Cultural Institute Seeking Artwork for Cover Page

The Mexican Cultural Institute is seeking artwork to use as a cover for a new book by Professor David Hayes-Bautista, Director for the UCLA Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture, called: La Nueva California: Latinos in the Golden State. The Artist will be given credit in the book and all related publicity, and will be paid a fee of $1,000 to use the image on the book cover, with an option to sell original artwork to the Center. Scholarship Opportunity for Immigrant Students
Deadline: September 15, 2003.

The Ellen & Federico 2004 Jimenez Scholarship Program will award (25) $2,000 scholarships to deserving Latino college students who are INELIGIBLE to receive federal and/or state financial aid, and have been accepted to a Community College or State University in California or Texas. 

Students must be enrolled full time in order to qualify. The scholarship is warded to students based on the following three factors: Involvement and commitment to serve the latino community, academic achievement and financial need.

Homeowner/renter Assistance Claim Forms Available

Assemblywoman Shirley Horton reminds residents that Homeowner/Renters Assistance Claim Forms are now available and the deadline to apply for the Homeowner/Renters Assistance Program is October 15, 2003.

Don’t miss your opportunity to participate in the Homeowner/Renters Assistance Program. The total household income limits have increased and you may qualify for a refund.

You may file a refund claim if on December 31, 2002 you were 62 years of age or older, blind or disabled; and meet the following requirements:

 Owned and lived in your home on December 31, 2002 or paid rent of $50 or more per month in 2002.

 Total gross household income for 2002 was $37,676 or less

 You are a United States citizen, designated alien, or qualified alien when you file your claim.

The filing period for the 2003 claim year begins July 1, 2003 and assistance is available through October 15, 2003. If you filed last year, you should have received a booklet and claim form by August 1st.
