Internationally acclaimed pianist Gustavo Romero will perform with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra in Savoir Faire, three concerts of French orchestral pieces from November 17-21. Having performed with the SDCO for many years, this season Romero will be featured on Franck’s Symphonic Variations and Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 22. The rest of the program includes Debussy’s Danse, Ibert’s Divertissement and Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante defunte.
Originally from Chula Vista, Romero is a well-known and beloved artist in San Diego County. He began his performance career at age 11 with a concert at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in La Jolla. Since graduating from the Juilliard School, Romero has performed with leading orchestras around the world.
Savoir Faire will be performed three times in locations across San Diego County: Monday, November 17 at Sherwood Auditorium at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 700 Prospect St. in La Jolla; Tuesday, November 18 at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club, 15150 San Dieguito Rd. in Rancho Santa Fe; and Friday, November 21 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, 1535 Third Ave. in downtown San Diego. All performances begin at 8 p.m. with a pre-concert talk by artistic director and conductor Donald Barra. Tickets range from $15 to $60, with student rush tickets ($10) available beginning one hour before the concerts at Sherwood Auditorium and St. Joseph’s Cathedral. All tickets to Fairbanks Ranch Country Club include valet parking and a pre-concert wine and hors d’ouevres reception beginning at 7 p.m.
