La Jolla Country Day School will host an open house on Saturday, November 4, on the school's campus at 9490 Genesee Avenue. A special session will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for those interested in the nursery and pre-kindergarten programs (for three-and four-year-olds). Those interested in kindergarten through grade 12 will attend a session that begins at 10 a.m. with registration and refreshments, followed by entertainment, a formal program and classrooms visits at 10:30. The event will end at 12:30 p.m.
Students and their parents are invited to view Country Day's classrooms, library, observatory, computer labs and music and art studios, as well as the science, theatre and athletic facilities. Current students and their parents, teachers and administrators will be available to answer questions about the Country Day curriculum, admissions requirements and student life. College counseling, before- and-after-school care, bus service and financial assistance will also be discussed. This school year LJCD awarded almost $900,000 in assistance, based on financial need.
La Jolla Country Day is an independent, co-educational, non-sectarian, not-for-profit, college preparatory school educating 1,000 students. The 24-acre campus is located in San Diego's Golden Triangle. Twenty percent of the school's students live in La Jolla. Others travel from communities from throughout San Diego County, including Vista, Carlsbad, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, San Marcos, Escondido, Poway, Tierrasanta, Chula Vista and Bonita.
Country Day has an outstanding college placement rate. Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, Yale, MIT and Dartmouth are among the schools that accept Country Day seniors each year.
"La Jolla Country Day School students are motivated and enthusiastic about learning," said Interim Headmaster John Finch. "The Country Day faculty challenges students to do their best within a school culture that says it is important to study and excel."
