Its been almost 50 years since Toyota has been manufacturing the Land Cruiser. In my opinion the best 4x4 SUV ever built. The Land Cruiser has set the standard for SUV today. The 2001 land Cruiser literally, a go anywhere vehicle, for you to cruise over land no matter what the surface is like, with a powerful 4.7 liter V-8, and an impressive full time four wheel drive system.
Everything remains the same for the 2001, except for added standard convenience features. A storage compartment in the front console, one touch up/down windows, compass in the rear view mirror for the models without the GPS navigation system (We'll get to that in a second). And a premium JBL audio system (when they mean premium, they mean premium!) The interior is beautiful. Leather all around. Attention to detail everywhere with rear ventilation controls mounted between the second and third row seats, power outlets in the rear cargo area for camping or other outdoor activities is a big plus. Along with a third row backseat, the Land cruiser fits all. Both backseats folded up, give Kaya, my dog, plenty of room to move around, this car has 90.8 cubic feet of cargo room.
The model I received had the GPS navigation system, which also includes a 6-disc CD/DVD changer. This feature made waiting around in the car, a delight. What you need me to take you to the store, I'll wait in the car! The DVD player works when the parking brake is activated while in park. I watched Bond, some more Bond, James Bond, and with the GPS system I actually wanted to thank Q. The audio system features Dolby Digital Surround sound. It was very impressive to see a car with a better home entertainment system than I have at home! The 7-inch display is touch sensitive, and requires you to touch the screen for features for the GPS, ventilation system, and audio controls. I didn't really like the touch screen feature since people with greasy fingers, would leave a mark on the screen. I can't imagine what would happen if I was eating McDonalds famous french-fries and touched the screen, not good. I probably shouldn't be eating in the car anyway.
The 4.7-liter, 32 valve, DOHC V8 provides power on demand. 230 horsepower @4800 rpm, 320 pounds-feet of torque @ 3,400 rpm will get you out of any situation. The Land Cruiser goes from 0-60mph in 9.9 seconds. This car can tow up to 6,500 lbs. The full-time, two speed four-wheel drive system allows for some nice four wheeling. With the switch in full lock mode, and in low-range four-wheel drive, all wheels rotate at the same time in unison to the other wheels. The Land Cruiser has a ground clearance of 9.8 inches.
Stopping power is excellent. The four-wheel ABS system works in all ranges of four-wheel drive, with massive 12.2-inch front ventilated disc brakes, and 12.9 rear ventilated disc brakes.
Toyota continues to prove they make an excellent product. The Land Cruiser has a base price of $52,895.00. Extra options are the GPS system at $3,000.00, the third row seat at $2,265.00, a drop hitch at $379.00, and the carpet set at $180.00, ahh lets not forget the $480.00 destination charge. Price test was $59,199.00, this is the price you pay to receive the best SUV in the market. These cars last forever if well maintained, and hold their value better than any other vehicle in its class.
