Classic Speed Festival
Chrysler-Jeep Classic Speed Festival is running at full throttle as it prepares to land at the Naval Air Station, North Island on picturesque Coronado in San Diego Bay for two eventful days, October 20 and 21. Approximately 225 cars will overtake the U.S. Naval Air Base in front of the thousands of appreciative racing fans. Back by popular demand are the historic Trans-Am cars that last year brought fans to their feet to cheer on each pass and pedal to the metal dash down the front straightaway.
But before that, visitors will be treated to a host of races that feature such familiar marques as Shelby, Alfa Romeo, Pors-che, Ferrari, Bugatti, Cobra and Jaguar, to name a few. For tickets and other information, call (619) 283-5808.
The historic business district of Downtown San Diego's Little Italy will come alive on Sunday, October 21st from 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. with live music, fine Italian food and specialty crafts during the 7th Annual Little Italy Italian Festa. They will also have the First Annual Little Italy Bocce Ball Tournament at Amici Park. The tournament is both Saturday and Sunday. Also new this year is the Alfa Romeo Car Show. Guests will have an opportunity to view an historic collection of these classic Italian automobiles.
The Festa will also include three entertainment stages, the Madonna de Lume procession beginning at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, specialty crafts booths combined with the finest Italian food offered by the famous restaurants of Little Italy. Día de Los Muertos
A community tradition at the San Diego Museum of Man, October 22, in the Museum main floor, $6 includes Museum admission. This presentation will focus on the traditions behind the Day of the Dead (Dia de Los Muertos), a unique Indo-Hispanic holiday which commemorates the return of spirits to earth. The holiday is celebrated throughout Mexico on Nov. 1 in honor of friends and family who have passed away. Participants will participate with Museum staff in decorating a traditional Day of the Dead altar, complete with customary foods, flowers, and remembrances.
Also, "Skulls, Spirits, and Stories from Beyond," a special weekend program for all ages. Noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, and Sunday October 27th - 28th. Free for members, $6 for non-members, includes Museum admission.
