Scripps Celebrates National Breast Health Awareness Month

Free Breast Exam and Mammogram for Women who Qualify

Scripps Memorial Hospital Chula Vista and Scripps Otay Family Health Center are celebrating National Breast Health Awareness Month by offering free breast exams and mammo-grams to all women who qualify and hosting a Community Health Fair, Thursday, October 17 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Scripps Otay Family Health Center located at 1637 Third Ave. in Chula Vista.

If you are 40 years of age or older, have low income and are uninsured, you may qualify for a free breast exam and mammogram. Women will be seen by a nurse practitioner and will then be referred for a mammography. Screenings are available every Thursday and Friday. Walk-ins are welcomed.

Once a woman is seen, a member of the “promotoras,” who are women trained to be advocates, educators and facilitators of the program in the South Bay, will work with the patient to help guide them through the process and answer any questions.

The Scripps Community Health Fair will be held October 17 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Scripps Otay Family Health Center. The fair will include free blood pressure screenings, glucose testing and breast exams. There will be a visit by the Children’s 10 Mobile and information regarding affordable insurance enrollment. For more information about the fair or the free breast exam program, call 1-800-SCRIPPS (1-800-727-4777).
