SAN MARCOS On Friday, Oct. 18, nearly 1,000 high school seniors in the North County will learn first-hand what Palomar College is all about.
The first annual preview day, called “eXpo,” will begin at 8:30 a.m. with an official welcome, followed by 20-minute presentations and other activities on the college campus, located at 1140 W. Mission Road in San Marcos.
Admission to the event and lunch are free for all participants. High school seniors may register for the Palomar “eXpo” through their school’s counseling offices.
Each student will register for one of two programs, either the “Performing Arts eXpo” or the “All-College eXpo.”
“During the first program, students will experience a dynamic cross-section of dance, music and theatre classes taught at the college freshman and sophomore levels,” said Dr. Brenda Montiel, coordinator of the performing arts segment. She added that performing groups will be showcased throughout the morning.
“We hope that participants experience the high caliber of varied performances offered at Palomar and become aware of our small classes and exceptional faculty,” she said.
According to Javier Williams, coordinator of the “All-College” program, students in this group will learn about the wide variety of educational opportunities provided at Palomar to help them pursue their particular educational and career objectives. Representatives from counseling and various academic fields will introduce students to the campus and explain college offerings and services.
“Each year more students select Palomar College as their college of choice,” said Williams. “They realize the high caliber of teaching at Palomar, and they discover that our college transfer courses are comparable to those of four-year institutions.”
At lunchtime, several Palomar College departments will set up information tables around the track area in front of Parking Lot #2, inside the campus main entrance, where “eXpo” participants may visit and ask questions.
