City to Rename Park to Honor Ron Ortega

The City of Oceanside will hold a formal Park Re-naming Ceremony on Saturday, December 1, 2001 at noon at Recreation Park, 132 Brooks Street, to honor the late Ron Ortega, a well-known regional softball athlete and longtime Oceanside resident.

This special dedication recognizes Ortega's special contributions to the Oceanside community. He was instrumental in building the City's Adult Softball League and Youth baseball programs. During his lifetime, Ortega encouraged and ment-ored countless young players, many of whom are now involved as local youth and high school coaches.

A bronze plaque will be unveiled during the ceremony, and a special presentation will be made to Ortega's widow, Gwen Ortega. City Officials, Little League representatives and members of the public will also be on hand to officially re-name Recreation Park to Ron Ortega Recreation Park.
