Free Fair Takes Place November 17 from 10 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
National City Do you want to learn more about Health Insurance, Parent Education Classes, Legal Mediation, and Immigration Advice? Southwestern College’s (SWC) Family Resource Center will provide this opportunity Open House and Community Services Fair, taking place Wednesday, November 17, 2004 from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the College’s Higher Education Center (HEC) at National City, 880 National City Blvd. Free parking, refreshments, and child care (ages 3-5 years old) will be provided.
Representatives from more than 30 community and health agencies will be offering free and low-cost services to families will be available to share information and answer questions on a number of topics, including Employment Services, Health Care, Women’s and Senior Citizens’ Resources, and more. Fair participants will also receive free health screenings and will have the opportunity to sign up for a free dental cleaning, oral exam, and X-rays. Tours of the new HEC and Family Resource Center will also be provided.
Established in 1998, the HEC recently began offering classes at its new home, the Education Village, a $20 million center in the heart of the city. More than 5,000 college students are expected to take advantage of the HEC’s offerings.
“We’re inviting parents and community residents to come take advantage of the many health and social services that are available to them,” said Cynthia Nagura, Director of SWC’s Family Resource Center. “This is the first major event taking place at the new HEC and will also be a perfect opportunity for people to see our new Center and become aware of the many programs and services we offer.”
The SWC Family Resource Center, located at the College’s Higher Education Center in National City, offers free workshops, access to different health and social services, dental hygiene services through the College’s Dental Hygiene Program, and child care for participants.
