Two Medal of Honor Recipients to Tell Their Heroic Stories at Central Library Event on Nov. 15

The City of San Diego Public Library will host two Medal of Honor recipients, Capt. Robert J. Moorzejewki, U.S. Marine Corps, Ret.; and Capt. Jay R. Vargas, U.S. Marine Corps, Ret. Both of these heroes are profiled in “Medal of Honor: Portraits of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty,” a new book by Peter Collier.

The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. Collier’s book, with photographs by Mick Del Calzo, was recently released to coincide with Veterans’ Day.

The library event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Central Library, 820 E St., in downtown San Diego. The program will include a short video from PBS on the subject of Medal of Honor recipients titled “American Valor.” In a question and answer format, Capts. Moorze-jewki and Vargas will tell about their service and the actions for which they were honored. They will also field questions about issues in the armed forces today, including recent military actions in the Middle East.

The Friends of Central Library (San Diego Public Library) will be selling copies of “Medal of Honor: Portraits of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty” at this event and the two speakers will be available to autograph the book.
