U.S. Army Brings Free Soccer Clinics to San Diego Campuses and Soccer Fields

Soccer Players Citywide ‘Get Drafted’ For High Energy Day With Major League Soccer Players, Scrimmages, Prizes and Sweepstakes

Grab your cleats and get drafted for a weekend of soccer with the U.S. Army and Major League Soccer forward Bobby Rhine of the Dallas Burn. Through “Goal Army – Play with the Pros,” the U.S. Army is offering a free, high-energy day of tips, drills, fast-paced scrimmages, giveaways and sweepstakes on San Diego campuses and soccer fields. The Army is recruiting San Diego college and high school players of all abilities, races and backgrounds to dribble, pass, trap and shoot alongside the pros and receive hands-on instruction. Players can choose from three different San Diego clinics from Friday through Sunday, November 14-16, 2003.

Admission is free for players and visitors. Players can sign up online now at www.GoalArmy.com for the San Diego clinics. Day of event registration is also available. All registrants receive distinctive dog tags.

“We’re providing the San Diego community a high-quality, first-hand experience with the U.S. Army through a weekend of fun and challenges out on the soccer field,” explained Col. Roger Behringer, the U.S. Army 6th Recruiting Brigade Commander. “We pride ourselves on the limitless opportunities we can offer young, active people and Goal Army is an excellent way to demonstrate this while driving some great interaction out on the field and providing some unique benefits for local players.”

For three action-packed hours, players can participate in tips and drills led by Dallas Burn players, break-out sessions with the Army, and win a chance to join a final game scrimmage. Players and their families can take photos with the pros, win prizes, scale a rock-climbing wall, check out the latest Army H2 or play America’s Army video game. Goal Army is also offering a few lucky players a chance to win a trip for two to a Los Angeles Galaxy game in 2004.

Players, coaches and fans can choose from three different clinics at Southwestern College, North County Soccer Park and San Ysidro Sports Field & Cesar Chavez Community Center. The three-hour clinics will be held Friday-Sunday, November 14-16, 2003. Registration and information is available at www.GoalArmy.com or call 1-888-543-7223 ext 232.
