By Dorothy Fieger,

The Marine Corps League Scuttlebutt Detachment is going to have a big Birthday Ball dinner-dance on Saturday, November 8, 2003, at the Don Diego VFW Post 7420, 2100 Logan Ave., San Diego.

For the very first time, the public is invited to join this celebration in honor of the Marine Corps 228th Birthday. It will be a classy event, so people interested in attending are asked to dress formally: ladies in after-five dinner dresses or pantsuits; gentlemen in suits or sport coats with shirt and tie.

Tickets for $25.00 per person (adults only) includes a formal sit-down dinner, music by the awesome, popular Latino band called “Breez-in.” Great door prizes include vacation getaways in Las Vegas, Laughlin, and Harrah’s in San Diego, plus dinners for two at local restaurants. Tickets are on sale from Jose Cadava, Tel. (619) 462-2518. Cash or money orders addressed to: MCL Scuttlebutt Det. #886 will be accepted. No personal checks!

Parking is limited in the area, so get there early. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. A formal sit-down dinner will be served beginning at 5:00 p.m. Dancing is from 8:00 p.m. to midnight.

There are also current opportunities available for those students wishing to work on a single project in November. Please note: This is an unpaid position. To apply, please email a resume, a writing sample, and a coverletter to: Denisse.Roldan@ltg.ca.gov. For inquiries regarding opportunities available in November, please call 619-525-4305.
