Cecilia Garcia-Kirk, a dedicated community activist for the past 18 years, convinced the Board of Editors of La Prensa San Diego that she was the best candidate for the 2nd seat for the National City, City Council. We believe she will complement the selection of Ron Morrison as Mayor and Francisco “Frank” Parra as City Councilpersons to bring a new dedicated team to City Hall.
It was a difficult choice only because Luis Natividad was also in the race. What tipped the balance was that Luis had been active for the last eight years working for San Diego City Councilman George Stevens and concentrated most of his efforts in serving District 8 of San Diego, while Cecilia Garcia-Kirk has spent the last eighteen years working with the youth, families, and coping with the bureaucracy of National City to best serve the people who live within the boundaries of the City.
While Luis Natividad busied himself with serving the residents of South East San Diego, Cecilia Garcia-Kirk spent her efforts to improve the economic base of the residents living within the community. The parents of school age children recognized her efforts while on the National School District Board of Trustees and as a member of the Assessor Committee that advised the School on financial matters; Cecilia was also active as President of the Committee for the improvement of the residential communities of the City. She served as Vice-president of the Committee for Public Action. She has been active in the struggles to make our neighborhoods safe and currently she has been working as the Executive Director of the “Christmas in July” activities. Cecilia is active in her church and is married to John Kirk. They have one daughter and three Grandchildren. She was educated at Fresno City College, Grossmont Community College and at Cabot College.
Cecilia Garcia-Kirk will need very little training time and will be ready to meet and tackle the issues that will make National City a better place to live in. She brings to the voters a person of integrity, with an eagerness to continue her service to the residents of National City!
