The Latino Graduation Committee would like to inform you that our annual event will take place Saturday, May 18, 2002 at San Diego State University’s Open Air Theatre from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The purpose of this event is to provide all graduating Latinos at San Diego State University a personal ceremony in which their families can participate. The graduates will have the opportunity to be accompanied by two significant others to receive their certificate.
Our theme for this year is “Education: La Lucha Sigue.” (“Education: The Struggle Continues.”) Our graduates have struggled throughout their careers as students to reach this day and they will continue to do so to achieve their goals.
Our keynote speaker this year will be the Honorable Judge Roy Cazares an alumni of San Diego State University. Roy Cazares was the first Chicano graduate from SDSU to attend Harvard Law School. In 1973 Judge Cazares became the president of La Raza Lawyers of San Diego. He later became a Superior Court Judge and retired in spring of 2002. Our theme for this year is “Education: La Lucha Sigue.”
This event is organized by five San Diego State University organizations: Association of Chicana Activists (A.Ch.A), Alpha Pi Sigma (Latina Based Sorority), Gamma Zeta Alpha (Latino Fraternity), Hispanic Business Student Association (HBSA), and Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano/a de Aztlan (M.E.Ch.A). We invite you to join us at this momentous event.
