Forum Fronterizo

San Diego Dialogue’s next Forum Fronterizo on “Pubic Health Preparedness and Emergency Response in our Binational Region” will be held on Monday, May 20 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Double Tree Hotel in Mission Valley. The forum program will bring top experts and public health officials from both sides of the border to inform our public of recent initiatives to increase health preparedness in our region. At The Beach

Try tastes of chili from 40 of the best chili cookers in the County while you listen to the sounds of smooth jazz artists at the 9th Annual Imperial Beach Chili & Jazz Festival, Saturday, May 18 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Veteran’s Park on IB Blvd., between 8th & 9th streets. Enjoy a pancake breakfast and student jazz bands. Artists will include Reel to Real, Toni Redd, Joe Cano, Fattburger. Bring a blanket or law chair.

IB is also hosting the first Professional Surfing Tour of America, May 23-26. Cali-fornia’s best will be competing in Men’s Shortboard, Women’s Shortboard and Longboard events just north of the IB Pier and Pier Plaza.

Beach Bash ‘02 Outdoor music event to be held at the Oceanside Pier Amphitheatre on May 24th at 7 p.m. Enjoy free music, an inspirational message and visit the sponsor booths for a fun evening for all ages. For more information, call 760-845-8136.

Art & Culture Festivals

You’re invited to attend San Diego American Indian Culture Days, Saturday and Sunday, May 18 & 19, 10 am to 6 pm in San Diego’s Balboa Park on Park Blvd. and Presidents Way. Santa Ysabel Art Festival will be held for the 11th year on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19 from 10 am to 5 pm on the grounds of the Santa Ysabel Art Gallery, at the intersection of Highways 78 and 79 in Santa Ysabel, 7 miles below Julian. Food will be available. Admission to the festival is free.
