Community Input Needed to Name New Elementary Schools

School name suggestions are due May 30

San Diego City Schools is seeking name suggestions for two new elementary schools being built under Proposition MM, the $1.51 billion bond measure that funds modernization of 165 existing schools and construction of 16 new/rebuilt schools.

The two new schools that need to be named are:

The new Kennedy/Knox Area Elementary School: This new school in Lincoln Park will be built on the existing Kennedy Elementary site at 445 South 47th Street. The existing Ken-nedy Elementary will be rebuilt but will retain its name. However, the second school on the site required a name.

The new King/Logan/Perkins Area Elementary School: This new school in Barrio Logan will be bounded by Martin Avenue on the north, the alley between Logan and Greely on the south, 32nd Street on the east, and 31st Street on the west. It excludes the parcels in the northwest corner.

If you have a school name suggestion, please submit the name, as well as a brief summary of why you think the name is appropriate or a biography of the individual for whom you think the school should be name. Send your suggestion no later than Friday, May 30, 2003, to Janet D. Delaney, Director of Community Relations, San Diego City Schools, 4100 Normal Street, San Diego, CA 92103. If you have any questions about the school naming process, contact Janet Delaney at (619) 725-5593, Community Input Needed to Name New Elementary Schools
