Pardee Homes’ Ocean View 5K Run/Walk for Education Donates $1,500 To San Ysidro Schools

Pardee Homes has donated $1,500 to the San Ysidro School District from the proceeds of the Pardee Homes Ocean View 5K Run/Walk for Education. The district will use the funds to support its annual Read-A-Thon program, a component of the California Reads program, to increase reading outside the classroom.

The donation represents a portion of the proceeds from the race held November 9, 2002. Pardee also presented $1,500 donations to the Sweetwater Union High School District and Chula Vista Elementary School District to help support educational programs.

Making the donation at a ceremony in the school district’s office, Chuck Corum, Assistant Vice President and Director for Community Development at Pardee Homes, said the contribution to the San Ysidro School District is part of Pardee’s ongoing corporate commitment to support schools where it builds homes.

“Pardee Homes appreciates the opportunity to make this valuable contribution that benefits schools that serve the students from our Ocean View Hills master-planned community,” Corum said. “The Pardee Homes Ocean View 5K Run/Walk for Education held last year was an inaugural event. We plan to build on its success and make it an annual activity to help support education in the district.”

Over the past several years, Pardee Homes also has contributed to specific San Ysidro school programs such as the annual Writer’s Tea and Perfect Attendance Award and has helped finance new facilities and purchase computer equipment.

California Reads is a comprehensive, research-based recreational reading program designed to increase reading outside the classroom and help parents promote literacy behaviors at home. The Read-A-Thon is an integral component of this program.

Established in 1921, Pardee Homes provides new home choices for a spectrum of households and price points, with particular focus on master-planned settings that also include schools, parks, shopping and other amenities.
