The Colortyme Rentals of National City presents the San Diego and Imperial Counties Golden Glove Championship. The Golden Glove Championship is scheduled for April 3, 1999, 2:00 pm at Crawford High School's gymnasium in San Diego, Ca.
This years Championship is very critical, states Golden Glove Chairman Robert Coons, "the winner of this years National Golden Glove Championship will be the first individual to qualify for the 2000 Olympic Trials."
For the first time in the history of amateur boxing in San Diego County, San Diego actually has tow individuals who should be the top favorites in winning the National Golden Gloves. Sergio Espi-noza from the United States Institute of Amateur Athletics, will be competing in the 112 lbs. category. Espinoza was the first individual in the history of San Diego county to win the National Golden Glove Championship in 1997. Sergio De La Torre from Escondido Boxing and Fitness Club competing in the 132 lbs., category has been rated as high as number 2 in the nation.
The event will be $3.00 for youth 10 years and under, $5.00 general admission and $7.00 ringside seating.
The San Diego and Imperial County Golden Gloves is hosted by the United States Institute of Amateur Athletics and is sponsored by Colortyme Rentals in National City. The proceeds from the event will go to help the San Diego Golden Glove delegation compete in the Southern California and California State Championships.
If there are any funds left over they will go toward the Archie Moore Training and Education building fund.
