Augustine Gallego Named Chair of San Diego Dialogue

San Diego Dialogue is pleased to announce that Augustine Gallego, Chancellor of the San Diego Community College District, has been selected Chair of the organization.

During his tenure as Chancellor of one of the largest community college districts in the United States, Gallego has led the development of numerous innovative programs, including public and private partnerships, to more effectively serve students and the community. He is the Chair-elect of the American Council on Education, the largest advocacy organization in the country for colleges and universities. "Change Magazine" named Gallego one of the 21 most influential senior leaders in higher education in the United States.

Gallego has been a member of San Diego Dialogue since 1990 and served more recently as Vice-Chair of Community Relations.

"As we celebrate our tenth anniversary, the Dialogue is looking at ways that we can more actively engage the broader community in our issues. I can't think of anyone more involved in San Diego to help guide us through this process. Augie's knowledge and insight have been invaluable over the years," said Chuck Nathanson, Executive Director of San Diego Dialogue."

Frank Urtansun, Chair of the San Diego Unified Port Authority and Vice-Chair for the Dialogue's Membership and Nominating Committee said, "I feel we hit a home run. Augie is highly respected across all ethnic, social, professional and business groups in San Diego and Tijuana. He will help us take this organization to the next level."

Gallego takes over for retired Admiral Ray Peet. His two-year term begins April 1st.
