The Coalition of Neighborhood Councils (CNC) is hosting a free, community-wide picnic to help neighbors meet neighbors on Saturday, March 31 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Martin Luther King Park, 6401 Skyline Dr.
Games, food, and multicul-tural entertainment for adults and children will highlight the day in which all 22 of the area's neighborhood council members are reaching out to their respective communities to meet residents and discuss the issues affecting their areas.
Communities served by the CNC include Lomita Village, Greater Skyline, Jamacha, Emerald Hills, Webster, Mt. Hope/Helix, Encanto, Valencia Park, Skyline Hills, Oak Park, Knox, Paradise Hills, Chollas View, Lincoln Park, Mountain View, Broadway heights, Balboa Vista, Paradise Valley, East Imperial, and South Briarwood, as well as the areas served by the O'Farrell Community and Willie Henderson Town Councils.
"By working together, we get a lot more things done in our home communities," said Vern-on Brinkley, chairman of the CNC. "We want our neighbors to come to this event and learn about what's going on in their communities. If we can get more people involved, we can address the concerts that we all share, like education, health and affordable housing, and start to make changes to our neighborhoods."
Residents can also learn about resources in their communities of which they may have been unaware.
The CNC will be serving hot dogs and punch and will provide with entertainment, including children's amusement rides.
