San Diego Bay Comes Alive in April

Need a rescue from your routine? Head to San Diego Bay Days in April for the largest celebration in the Bay's history. Everyone is invited to San Diego Bay Days for five weeks of mostly free festivities including blues and jazz, salsa and seafood, fireworks and fishing lessons, airport and cruise ship tours, children's activities and more. America's finest city will showcase the region's premier waterfront destination — our very own San Diego Bay. The Port of San Diego joins with the San Diego Port Tenants Association and bayfront businesses to host San Diego Bay Days.

"Invite a friend or grab the kids and head on down to San Diego's beautiful bay as it comes alive this spring," said Frank Urtasun, Chairman of the Board of Port Commissioners. "San Diego Bay Days is a great opportunity for those who live in the region to come down to the harbor and enjoy the wide array of activities San Diego Bay has to offer."

The fun will begin on Sunday, April 1 with Freewheeling Around the Bay, hosted by San Diego Harbor Excursion in Coronado and Ferry Landing Marketplace. Explore the bike trails and pathways stretching from Harbor Island to the South Embarcadero and from Coro-nado to Imperial Beach by car, bike, ferry or foot. The evening's activities include music and prizes, a comedy show featuring "Stupid Human Tricks" on Broadway Pier and Ferry Landing, plus fireworks over the Bay.

The Airport Experience Tour is offered on Wednesdays during San Diego Bay Days. See Lindbergh Field, public art and much more on a two-hour guided walking tour of San Diego International Airport. North and South Bay Port narrated motorcoach tours are featured on Thursdays.

Safety Day will feature Survival Tactics for Land, Sports and Water on Saturday, April 7 at Embarcadero Park South and is absolutely free. The day will feature a variety of important survival and safety tactics for land, water and sports activities. Demonstrations and interactive fun with fire trucks, fishing, sports celebrities, U.S. Coast Guard, Theodore Tugboat and Twiggy, the water-skiing squirrel, will be featured.

Come out and enjoy San Diego Bay's Great Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 14, a favorite Easter-time tradition and take part in the other festivities of the day, including face painting, music, contests and prizes sponsored by Hawaiian Airlines. On Pet Rescue Day on the Bay, sponsored by Horn-blower Cruises, adopt a pet or drop off a new or gently-used, clean blanket at the Horn-blower Cruises ticket booth at the foot of Broadway on Harbor Drive and help yourself to be a free-Hornblower Cruises Bay Tour Ticket

More exciting events happening during San Diego Bays Days include: Think Bay Day, Movies Before the Mast aboard the Star of India, the 6th Annual Hot Licks Festival with "fire-y" food tasting and an amateur salsa competition, cruise ship tours, sunset jazz, a charity art auction, Kiss Your Mate Day at Sally's Seafood on the Water," Day at the Docks featuring fishing lessons, exhibits, a casting contest, boat rides and more at the San Diego Landings, plus Jean-Michel Cousteau, one of the most respected ocean environmentalists in the world, who will present video footage of underwater exploration and ocean life. San Diegans should also be sure to catch the San Diego Bay Days grand finale: fireworks at the Embarcadero on Saturday, May 5.
