March 17, 2006 and the San Diego Latino Film Festival team up to sponsor Sonido Latino! concert series

San Diego-based, the pioneering Latin music download site, and the San Diego Latino Film Festival joined forces once again this year to present the third annual Sonido Latino! concert series. The series of Latino music-based events continues through this weekend in conjunction with the 2006 film festival. The joint project seeks to support the diverse genres of Latino Music while promoting the still-developing Latino side of the online music industry.

Sonido Latino! is comprised of nightly performances by many talented musicians and singers representing a wide range of music styles, including Salsa, Hip Hop and Rock en Español. This year’s six nights of entertainment included performances by salsa artist Johnny Polanco, DJ Mambo, Los Amantes de Lola, DJ Ruben Casas, Francisco Aguabella, and popular Fonovisa recording artist, David Rolas.

The ambitious event match-es’s upstart attitude and approach to the ever booming music download industry. The company was founded by three music and internet commerce professionals with the vision of providing Latino music listeners with a legal, online music downloading service tailored specifically to their tastes and needs.

The site offers everything from underground Latin Alternative and dance to Latin jazz and traditional sounds from Latin America and beyond. has added to its legitimacy by recently inking a deal with Nacional Records, one of the fresh-faced leaders in the Latin Alternative music scene.

The concert series closes out with a night for salsa fans featuring legendary Colombian salsa artist, Sonora Carruseles from Discos Fuentes on Saturday, March 18th in Hillcrest at The Abby, 2825 5th Avenue from 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.

The music series compliments The 13th Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival which began March 9 and also continues through March 19, 2006 at UltraStar Mission Valley Cinemas at Hazard Center.

The San Diego Latino Film Festival traditionally offers great films, workshops, exhibits, concerts and the participation of many celebrities which this year included Maria Conchita Alonso, Alfonso Arau, Angelica Maria, Barbara Mori, Jaime Camil, Mauricio Islas, Roselyn Sanchez, and Eduardo.
