School House Rock Live!

Based on the 1970's ABC-TV educational animated series, School House Rock, Tom, a young teacher, is on the schoolhouse playground, nervously preparing for his first day on the job. Suddenly, five people appear from School House Rock, they have gather to give Tom the confidence he needs and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music. By the time the show is over, Tom is ready to face his first day. "School House Rock Live!" can be seen at the Casa del Prado Theatre in Balboa Park from April 13 - 29. Myth, Magic and Reality

The Children's Museum / Museo de los Niños San Diego is proud to host a public reception at the Museum on Saturday, March 17 with internationally renowned artist, Betty LaDuke. The reception will showcase the collection of paintings and etching entitled Celebration Africa: Myth, Magic and Reality. This amazing artwork has been on display at the Museum since the beginning of February and will end on March 17, 2001. "The Stars of St. Petersburg Ballet"

A truly extraordinary performance of ballet will occur as the Stars of St. Petersburg, direct from Russia - appear at the Spreckels Theatre, 121 Broadway, downtown San Diego on March 17th and 18th for three performances.

The troupe includes the principal dancers and soloists of the Mariinsky Theater ballet of St. Petersburg, Russia. They will perform duets and solos from some of the great classics such as Giselle, Don Quixote, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Sheherezade, as well as less familiar works and works choreographed especially for the troupe. The performers are rated the best Russia has to offer, which means the world's best. The Stars of St. Petersburg opens Saturday, March 17 at 8 p.m. with performances Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $38 - $49. Poetry Slam

The Pine Hills Lodge and Dinner Theater presents our second "Poetry Slam" (poetry contest) with prize money and donations from "Downtown Main Street Association", Wednesday, March 21 from 7-9PM at 2960 La Posada Rd., Julian. Call (760) 765-1100 for more details.


Rosarito-Ensenada Bicycle Ride

Registration is now under way for the largest fun cycling event on the West Coast, as cyclists prepare for the 15th annual spring Rosarito-Ensenada Fun Bicycle Ride Saturday, April 21. The ride begins at 10:30 a.m. in Rosarito in front of the Festival Plaza Hotel and follows a scenic coastline route south, before turning inland through the countryside. The course then turns south for a two-mile climb up El Tigre, then winds through rolling hills before finishing along the ocean just outside of Ensenada.

Following the ride, entrants can enjoy the legendary "Finish Line Fiesta," set to run from 1p.m. until sunset. The fiesta will feature live music by The Big Idea, food, massages, dancing, souvenirs and approximately 30,000 friends and family.

Registration is $20 per participant ($25 after April 6) and includes ride entry, purified water, minor bicycle repair and on-course medical support (plus a beer or soft drink at the "Finish Line Fiesta"). For more information or to register, call (619) 583-3001.

Lorca and Gypsy Soul

Join us for an evening of bilingual poetry, songs and theatre in celebration of the Spanish Poet Federico Garcia Lorca, Thursday, March 22, 7:00 PM.
