Congressman Filner Names Humberto Peraza as District Chief of Staff, and Marielena Castellanos as Communications Director

Congressman Bob Filner today announced that Humberto Peraza has been selected to serve as District Chief of Staff, and that Marielena Castellanos has been selected to serve as Communications Director in the his 51st Congressional District Office. Humberto and Marielena, after making their start in Congressman Filner’s office, have returned and now bring new enthusiasm and insight to their positions.

“I’ve worked with many elected officials in California and Washington D.C. and Bob Filner is the hardest working of them all. People know they can count on him because he gets things done. He cares about people-and that’s why I’m excited to be working for him again,” said Peraza.

A Chula Vista resident, Peraza graduated from San Diego State University. He has worked for Congressman Xavier Becerra in Washington D.C. as the liaison to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Recently, he was the San Diego & Imperial Counties Area Director & Statewide Latino Director for U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer.

“Humberto has exceptional skills and shows great promise as the District Chief of Staff,” commented Congressman Filner. “With his talent and ability, I am confident that he will be a great asset and will go far in helping to meet the needs and concerns of the people living in my district.”

Marielena Castellanos was born and raised in Chula Vista, where she attended Southwestern College before transferring and graduating from UC Berkeley. Marielena previously worked in the Office of Mayor Dick Murphy.

“People say Bob Filner’s a fighter—and it’s true. He’s someone who stands up and speaks up for the little guy. He takes on causes that others won’t. He works hard and won’t stop until the problem is solved. His commitment to helping people is genuine-and I am honored to have the opportunity to work for him again,” said Castellanos.
