Valley-Grove Democrats Urgently Seeking Hispanic Members

The Valley-Grove Democrats, a small club representing the communities of Lemon Grove, Spring Valley, Rancho San Diego, and Jamul, are urgently seeking members from the Hispanic community.

"We have a wide and diverse mix of citizens in East County, but not one of our members is Hispanic," says Joe Krulder, Secretary for the club. "It's simple. We need to grow, but we cannot without assistance from our Hispanic neighbors."

Polling data collected from the last Presidential election indicated a significant increase in minority voters. The Civil Rights Commission recently reported that in Florida, Blacks were ten times more likely to be disenfranchised than Whites at the polls.

"The same can happen right here in San Diego," states Mr. Krulder. "We still have the same punch card ballots, we still have voter material that can mislead even those whose primary language is English.

"This is why we need Hispanics to join our club. We need to assist all our citizens in having their voices heard."

The Valley-Grove Democrats are but one of many Democratic clubs located throughout San Diego County. The club is active in registering voters, manning the telephones, and walking the precincts in order to get the voice of the community heard by policy makers.
