Coronado Island Fourth of July Independence Day Celebration Events: Note: To ease traffic and parking congestion, the Coronado 904 Bus Shuttle will be free on July 4th from 8 a.m - 10 p.m. with 1/2-hour service. For 904 shuttle information, call Coronado Transportation Management Association at (619) 522-6575. § 15K Run/5K Walk, 7 a.m. 1,500 runners test their endurance along Coronado's roads in this 27th anniversary Independence Day 15K Run/5K Walk. The City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department's Fourth Annual 4th of July Celebration "Parade of Nations" on Wednesday, July 4, 2001, 12:00 noon-10:00 p.m. Fireworks to begin at 9:00 p.m. at Cesar Chavez Recreation Center and Larsen Field 455 Sycamore, San Ysidro.

Thousands of people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds enjoying a parade, dance performances, live music, train rides, carnival games, and public service displays from the City Fire Department, the U.S. Border Patrol, and various social services agencies.

Children wearing traditional dress, an apple pie eating contest and more.


Mira Mesa 4th of July Celebration:

Mira Mesa's "An Old Fashioned 4th of July" parade begins at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday along Mira Mesa Boulevard and Camino Ruiz. A Family Fun Day featuring free entertainment, food booths and children's rides will be held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Gil Johnson Recreation Center & Community Park, 8575 New Salem St. The fireworks "sky concert," held at Mira Mesa High School, will be synchronized to music by KYXY 96.5 FM at 9 p.m. (858) 566-9336.


National City Celebration: This bash features a carnival with rides, food booths and a talent show Wednesday through Sunday at Kimball Park, 12th & D Avenue. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. Wednesday; (619) 443-2943.


Gala 4th of July Concert by the Sea: The Kearny Mesa Concert Band will perform patriotic songs and summer favorites at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The concert is followed by fireworks at 9 p.m. Scripps Park, La Jolla; (858) 454-4244.

Santee Summer Concert and Fireworks Display: The Jungle Boogie Band and `80s All Stars kick off Santee's Independence Day celebration at 4 p.m. Wednesday with a free concert at the Rio Seco Elementary School Amphitheater, 9545 Cuyamaca St. Fireworks synchronized to music on KPOP (1360 AM) begin at 9 p.m.; (619) 258-4100.

Rancho Bernardo Spirit of the Fourth: This gathering features kids' activities, food and entertainment from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Webb Park. A parade along Bernardo Center Drive begins at 3:30 p.m. Evening entertainment featuring a family-oriented variety show begins at 7 p.m. at Rancho Bernardo High School.
