Special July 4th Fireworks Scheduled in Chula Vista

A spectacular fireworks display will be featured along Chula Vista Yacht Harbor and Bayside Park on the Fourth of July beginning at 9 p.m.

Launched from a large barge located just west of the harbor and park in south San Diego Bay, excellent viewing of the fireworks is available anywhere along the Chula Vista bayfront. A musical simulcast during the fireworks display will be provided by KYXY-FM (96.5) at this alcohol-free event.

Free shuttle bus service for the fireworks will be provided by Chula Vista Transit from the trolley stations at E and H streets. Shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes to the harbor area from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and after the fireworks will make continuous runs until 10:30 p.m. back to the trolley stations. Because of the amount of traffic and very limited parking at the harbor, those attending are encouraged to use the free shuttles.

Once the limited public parking east of Bayside Park is filled, vehicular traffic into the area will be restricted. Special express lanes will be reserved for shuttle buses and emergency vehicles. Motorists should heed traffic direction signs in the area.

In addition, certain streets around the area will be designated as one-way. Police officers will direct traffic and parking throughout the day. Please note that Bay Boulevard will be closed to all traffic between H to J streets from 5 to 11 p.m.

Transit Partnership Brings Free Public Transportation Provided to Job Seekers

The San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP) has joined with the North County Transit District (NCTD) and the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) to help connect potential job seekers with the skills and resources needed to gain employment with numerous San Diego-area employers.

On Saturday, July 6, 2002, SDWP is hosting the “Employment, Education and Training Community” as part of the 10Leadership Day event at Qualcomm Stadium. The event runs between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and has become an important annual resource festival for the community.

The SDWP expects 100 companies to participate in their Job Fair, providing an excellent opportunity for job seekers of all ages and experience levels to learn about new employment options.

Prior to the event, operators of the SDWP’s One-Stop Career Centers will help hob seekers prepare their resumes for 10Leadership Days recruiters. By utilizing this resource, job seekers will receive a voucher for a free ride to the job fair on an MTS bus, trolley or NCTD Coaster. For those job seekers who don’t have and updated resume, staff at the SDWP’s One-Stop Career centers can provide resume workshops at no charge. And, just by dropping by the transit booth in the “Employment, Education and Training” tent, job seekers can redeem their free ride voucher to the job fair for another free ride voucher home on the day of the event.

Job seekers can call the SDWP at (888) 884-SDWP (7937) or visit www.SanDiegoAtWork.com for a referral to any of the One-Stop Career Centers to exchange a resume for a transit ticket to the event.
