City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department Pool Guard, Mialena Moreno, Honored by Department Director

Mialena Moreno, a Park and Recreation Department pool guard and swim instructor at Memorial Park Pool, was recognized for her outstanding work and dedication to the Logan Heights community at a Saturday, June 5 awards presentation before 200 of her fellow pool employees. "Mialena is the kind of guard who helps to set the standard for her peers," said Marcia C. McLatchy, Park and Recreation department director.

Moreno began working at Memorial Park Pool in 1997 as a pool guard and swim instructor. "Mia went door-to-door to promote our pool's water fitness classes to area residents," said Kami Kenyon, pool manager. "This community outreach strategy worked and we had full classes every week. We are very lucky to have her as part of our team," Kenyon added. Moreno is currently a sophomore at San Diego State University where she is pursuing a career in nursing.

Memorial Park Pool offers many affordable aquatic programs this summer to swimmers of all ages and abilities, including swimming lessons for children and adults, water exercise classes, youth water polo and swim teams, as well as lap and recreational swimming. Pool rentals and private swim lessons are available. Memorial Park Pool is located at 2902 Marcy Avenue in Logan Heights. Call 619-235-1139 for specific schedule and program information.
