Mialena Moreno, a Park and Recreation
Department pool guard and swim instructor at Memorial Park Pool,
was recognized for her outstanding work and dedication to the
Logan Heights community at a Saturday, June 5 awards presentation
before 200 of her fellow pool employees. "Mialena is the
kind of guard who helps to set the standard for her peers,"
said Marcia C. McLatchy, Park and Recreation department director.
Moreno began working at Memorial Park Pool in 1997 as a pool guard and swim instructor. "Mia went door-to-door to promote our pool's water fitness classes to area residents," said Kami Kenyon, pool manager. "This community outreach strategy worked and we had full classes every week. We are very lucky to have her as part of our team," Kenyon added. Moreno is currently a sophomore at San Diego State University where she is pursuing a career in nursing.
