Chela Financial Names Three Southwestern College Students for Annual Scholarship Award Program

Blanca Andrade, Lourdez Cruz and Lisa Donaldson, Southwestern College students received a $1,000 scholarship award from Chela Financial at this year's annual awards ceremony.

"It is Chela Financial's mission to help make higher education accessible to everyone," said Carol L. Coffman, president. "With the rising costs of education, students often rely heavily on students loans to finance their education."

"As an education finance company, we understand that graduating with a large student loan debt is a real concern," said Coffman. "Our scholarship program is designed to help ease the debt today's students incur in order to realize their education goals."

SWC nominated these three women as its candidates for the scholarship program because each demonstrates a commitment to excellence. More than 140 students from the ten-state region were nominated by their education institution for the Chela Financial Scholarship award.

Chela Financial is a non-profit corporation that provides financial access and assistance to students pursuing higher education. Since its first bond financing in 1984, Chela Financial has made nearly $3 billion available for higher education to over 780,000 student and parent borrowers.

In 1998 Chela Financial awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships; in 1999 more than $400,000 was committed to the scholarship program for on-campus scholarship programs and through Chela Financial's website.
