The Port of San Diego, the Chula Vista Convention & Visitors Bureau, Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce and the City of Chula Vista are excited to once again invite you to their annual “Celebrate Chula Vista”! This years FREE 4th of July event will take place on Monday, July 4th, 2005 from 12:00 Noon to 9:00 PM at Bayside Park in beautiful Chula Vista, California.
This years special 4th of July spectacular will once again feature fun for the whole family including live bands, cultural entertainment, children’s activities, a business expo, the delectable “Taste of the Bay”, a special salute to the military and of course a brilliant full scale fireworks show set to music.
The day’s festivities will begin at 12:00 Noon with the Miss South County Pageant. These talented and beautiful women will compete for the opportunity to represent their county in numerous city wide events and will go on to compete in the Miss California competition.
In keeping with our tradition of family, this year’s “Celebrate Chula Vista” once again promises something for everyone! The children’s area will boast enough activities to keep kids of all ages happy; including face painting, balloon artists, interactive and educational activities and the world famous Rad Hatter just to name a few! The children’s stage is sure to keep your little ones entertained with dancing, child performances, a magic show and the areas highlight, the ice cream and waermelon eating contests to be held from 3:15 PM to 3:45 PM.
Of course, the music and entertainment doesn’t stop there. Last years addition of the Community Stage was so successful, that it’s back again this year, only bigger and better than ever! This multi-cultural stage will highlight performances by some of Chula Vista and San Diego’s most eclectic performers. Starting at 12:00 Noon to 12:45 PM the Procrastinators will set the rhythm for the day. This outrageous trio of drummers turns five-gallon water bottles, barstools, pots and pans into the ultimate set of drums while jumping, sliding, twisting and stomping to their own soundtrack for fast and furious rhythmic fun! From 1:05 PM to 1:50 PM, get in touch with your Creole soul as Theo and the Zydeco Patrol bring the best of Southwest Louisiana festival music to Southern California. Then take a trip to the Islands, as Steel the Band will have you dancing in the sun with the Calypso sounds of an authentic Steel Drum band from 2:20 PM to 3:05 PM. Then indulge in your spicy side with the Maldonado Brothers from 3:25 PM to 4:10. This passionate Nuevo Latin Flamenco group will set your steps ablaze. Rounding out the stages performances will be colorful and brilliant Ballet Folklorico dancers from 4:30 Pm to 5:00 PM.
The entertainment on the Main Stage will surely be a highlight of the day. Beginning at 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, enjoy the sounds of Morrison, the hottest thing out of L.A. right now, when it comes to Spanish Rock. Next, Jacobs Loc will take the stage from 4:00 PM to 5:00 Featuring Jacob Underwood, formerly from O’Town and MTV’s “Making the Band.” The guys will play Funk rhythms laced with a mix of southern rock and blues, to create good old fashioned Rock & Roll. Get in touch with your “Rasta Mon” as one of South Bay’s hottest Reggae bands will take the stage from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. To close out the stage, San Diego’s own Viva Santana will perform their tribute to the great “Santana” from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
The Wells Fargo Business Expo at the 2005 “Celebrate Chula Vista” will surely be a hotspot throughout the day, with informative and educational booths set up throughout the venue. Make the most of this excellent networking opportunity. You can meet local entrepreneurs; sign up for free checking from Wells Fargo and visit booths from regional realtors, SDG&E, WSS Shoe Store and Knotts Soak City. Also be sure to visit the Chula Vista Police Department and the Chula Vista Conservation.
The newest addition to “Celebrate Chula Vista” is the “Taste of the Bay” where you can sample the flavors of Chula Vista at dozens of delicious food and beverage stands throughout the event. Also new to the 2005 line up is the South Bay’s Salute to the Military, where San Diego’s own Coast Guard, Army, and Navy Seal troops take to the water in a heroic display of patriotism.
Once again, the climax of the 2005 “Celebrate Chula Vista” will be the spectacular full scale fireworks show! This year’s show is sure to be one of San Diego’s finest, with over 20 minutes of brilliant fireworks set to music and choreographed to KYXY 96.5 FM!
This year’s event will also feature a shuttle service from the H Street Trolley Stop - (exit 5 freeway at H St. and head east, it is on your right). Shuttles will run to and from this location from 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM. There will also be event parking at the H St. & Bayside Blvd. parking lot (exit 5 freeway at H St. and head West through Bay Blvd, you will see the lot on your left).
