The Latino Entertainment Media Institute (LEMI) Calls for Entries for It's Annual Mini-Fest Screening

Burbank, CA — The Latino Entertainment Media Institute (LEMI) will present "The Future is Now: Diversity in Entertainment," the 6th Annual Latin Heat Industry Conference to be held on October 12-14, 2000, at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. In an effort to foster cultural diversity in the entertainment industry LEMI will sponsor their annual Mini-Fest Screening Room, screening the best trailers in the categories of features, student films, shorts, and documentaries. Submissions are now being accepted from Latino, as well as African-American, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Native-American, filmmakers. The winning trailers will be shown at a special distributor's luncheon held during the conference.

The two-day conference draws nearly a thousand participants and is well known for its panels led by respected industry professionals, dynamic networking opportunities, and screenwriting contest. As is the custom, the conference will culminate in a gala black-tie event honoring an individual, who through their work has helped elevate the image of the Latino in the media.

All entries will be critiqued by a selection committee of industry professionals who will then select ten finalists, including seven Latino filmmakers and one filmmaker from each of the other ethnic groups. Cash prizes will be awarded at a special luncheon to first ($1,000); second ($700); and third place ($300). A discount to attend the conference will be offered to all those who enter the competition. Past Mini Fest participants have included Star Maps and Luminarias, which as a direct result was picked up for distribution by New Latin Pictures and premieres May 5th.

Filmmakers are asked to submit their full-length work on 1/2" tape for consideration by August 15, 2000. If selected, finalists will then be asked to submit a trailer (no more than three minutes in length) by September 15, 2000. Trailers should be submitted on Beta. A sample of promotional materials should accompany all submissions. Works in progress will be accepted.

All materials must include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) along with a check or money order in the amount of $20.00 (non-refundable) for entry. Full-length submissions should be postmarked by August 15, 2000. Finalists will be asked to submit their trailers no later than September 15, 2000. LEMI is not responsible for any loss or damage of materials.
