Air War Korea

On June 23 at 2:00 p.m., the San Diego Aerospace Museum dedicates a new permanent exhibit, Air War Korea: Return to MiG Alley, to all the men and women who served their country in Korea. This is a special ceremony, by invitation only, commemorating both the 50th Anniversary of the Korean War and the opening of the new exhibit, special guest speaker Colonel Harold E. Fischer, USAF, Ret., recounts his Korean War military experience.

The exhibit features the MiG - 15 and F- 86 Sabre fighters, a J - 47 engine, pilot images, war artifacts, war era model airplanes, period films and other historical information. Movie Secrets

Learn how they form scars, create monsters, and make a person look old in the movies? You'll discover the secrets of movie makeup and have a chance to volunteer for a makeup special effect at this Oceanside Public Library children's program, Saturday, June 24th, at the Mission Branch Library, located at 3861 Mission Ave., at 10:30 a.m., and again at the Civic Center Library, 330 N Coast Highway, at 2 p.m. For more information call (760) 435-5591.


Free Concerts

The EastLake Company tunes into summer by presenting the free "Summer Sounds 2000" concert series in Chula Vista Community Park. Concert-goers are invited to bring blankets and beach chairs for this open-seating performance. Drinks and snacks will be available, with proceeds benefiting EastLake schools.

Saturday, June 24, 4 - 6 p.m. - The Heroes: Favorites from the Beatles and Rolling Stones, plus contemporary classics.

Saturday, July 29, 4 - 6 p.m. - Power Play: A combination of pop music and Latin rhythm is sure to delight music lovers of all ages.

Saturday, Aug. 26, 4 -6 p.m. - Groove Therapy: 70's and 80's tunes from choice bands Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool & the Gang and Bon-nie Raitt inspire groovy moves.

To reach Chula Vista Community Park, take I-805 to Telegraph Canyon Road and travel east. Turn right to EastLake Parkway and the park will be two blocks up on the right-hand side, at 1060 EastLake Parkway, next to EastLake High School. For more information, call 421-3111.


Classical Guitar Concert

Roberto Limón, director of the Baja California Orchestra and the Centro Hispanoa-mericano de Guitarra, will perform a classical guitar recital at 7 p.m. on June 29. This program will include works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Francisco Tarrega, Heitor Villa-lobos, William Walton, Julio Cesar Oliva and others.

This free concert will be held in the Rosemary Lane Galería at the South Chula Vista Library, 389 Orange Ave. For more information, call 585-5755.

Coming directly from San Francisco's Exploratorium and featuring 30 exhibits designed to make science, math and technology engaging, exciting and fun. ExploraZone, opening Saturday, July 1, at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park. Color Shadows is just one of the exhibits where visitors can indeed make yellow by combining red and green. Red, blue and green lights are mixed to create white light. Visitors can manipulate light mixtures to create mind-teasing results.

Each exhibit component in ExploraZone stimulates better understanding of the relationship between science, art, math and human perception. Color, sound and music, waves and resonance and energy are the platforms for investigation discovery. The exhibition will run through June 2001 and will be replaced by new ExploraZone exhibitions each year through June 2003. For more details, call 238-1233.
