The Gospel at Colonus

Soulful, earth-shaking, and thought-provoking, The Gospel at Colonus stages an African American Pentecostal church service inside the sancturary of St.Paul's Cathedral. Only tonight the sermon comes not from the Christian Bible but from that great parable of Greek mythology: the story of Oedipus. Actors and singers, playing both clergy and Greek characters tell the story of Oedipus as a parable on the ways of fate, death, and redemption, while the stage congregation performs as both Greek chorus and gospel choir, preaching, responding, shouting, and testifying. With the poetry of Greek tragedy and Bob Telson's unique fusion of gospel, pop, and soul The Gospel at Colonus creates communal catharsis and forges religious, cultural, and political bonds. Performances begin July 5th. St Paul's Cathedral is located at 2728 6th Ave, San Diego. Ticket prices are $15 general admission and $25 reserved.
