Foxploration Baja California to host June 5th Event for New Tijuana Pacific Rim Park

“To connect the cities of the Pacific like a String of Pearls”

Students from around the world will be coming to Tijuana this summer to help renowned artist James Hubbell build the fourth international friendship park linking San Diego and Tijuana to their sister cities of Vladivostok (Russia) and Yantai (China). Foxploration Baja, along with the Rotary Clubs of San Diego and Baja California Norte, the Ilan-Lael Foundation, the Americas Foundation, and the Sister City Societies invite the public to support the creation of the new park by attending the internationally-themed festivities and open house to be held at Fox Baja Studios from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm on June 5, 2004.

Three Pacific Rim Parks in China, Russia, and San Diego have already been created by architecture students to help bridge geographic and cultural differences, and symbolize the connection of a shared future around the Pacific Rim. Now it is Tijuana’s turn to shine. Land located off the La Joya exit of the Scenic Road from Tijuana to Ensenada has been made available by the Federal Commission for Roads and Bridges of Mexico. Hector Del Aguila and Maurilio Melendez are coordinating the participation of all the Tijuana and Rosarito Rotary Clubs in support of the project in recognition of Rotary In-ternational’s Centennial Anniversary.

Architecture students of the Universidad Iberoamericana are developing site plans and will help coordinate the students coming from the four countries during the month of July. Patty Howell, President of the Pacific Rim Park non-profit corporation says, “The parks embody a tapestry of the art and cultural traditions of each country and promote our sense of interconnection. The connection between San Diego and Tijuana is even more important because we share the same spot on the planet.”

Foxploration Baja has donated its entire facility for the June 5th event which will also include food from the four nations, live music, a dance presentation, films, interactive movie museum exhibits and other ocean-side festivities for a $10 donation. Send checks to: Ilan Lael Foundation, c/o Pacific Rim Park Event, P.O. Box 1221, Julian, CA 92036. Bus transportation will also be available, leaving Balboa Park at 4:30 pm. Cost is $25, including the Foxploration event. Bus reservations should be made by May 28th by emailing Edwina at esjt26@cox.net or calling 619-420-8759.
