Los Angeles just may be the mariachi capital of the world with more musicians, more groups male and female and more fans that anywhere else. KTLA is proud to be a sponsor of the 11th Annual Mariachi USA Festival at the Legendary Hollywood Bowl, Saturday and Sunday, June 10 (6 to 10 p.m.) and 11 (5 to 9:30 p.m.). The four-hour concert, show and celebration of culture, family and tradition presents the best of mariachi, the trademark music of Mexico, to sell out crowds year after year.
The Mariachi USA Festival first came to prominence in 1990 when creator and producer Rodri J. Rodriguez united Linda Ronstadt and Vikki Carr on one stage. Since then every Festival has spotlighted women performers including Los Angeles' own Reyna de Los Angeles in 1994.
To date, the lineup at the Mariachi USA Festival is: Mariachi Cobre, Mariachi Internacional Guadalajara de German Gutierrez, Orange County's Mariachi Imperial de Mexico and Mariachi Cielo de Mexico from Tucson, Arizona, marking its first Los Angeles area performance. This year the Festival is introducing Mariachi Mujer 2000 (Mariachi Woman 2000), a California ensemble. Rounding out the show will be colorful folklorico dancers of Ballet Folklorico Tonantzin and the Festival's signature fireworks finale.
