The United States Army Southern California Recruiting Battalion announces a series of events that will take place as part of its celebration of 225 years of service to the nation. The focal point of the celebration will occur on the Army's birthday, Wednesday, June 14th with activities all across the nation and in Southern California.
The U.S. Army was established on June 14, 1775 by Congressional Resolution, making it America's senior military service.
"We are looking forward to all of the 225th anniversary events with great anticipation. This is a wonderful opportunity for Americans to connect with the Army that serves them at home and abroad," said Lieutenant Colonel Dean A. Nowowiejski, Commander for the Southern California Recruiting Battalion.
Several professional baseball teams are lending their support by hosting a variety of pre-game events leading up to and including June 14th. One of the highlights of the day will be U.S. Army Parachute Team - the Golden Knights jumping into Padres Stadium with the baseball for the game against the Cardinals. An Army representative will sing the National Anthem, throw out the ceremonial first pitch, along with an All-Army Color Guard for the opening ceremonies. The pre-game activities will include a swearing-in of new recruits and a cake-cutting ceremony honoring the Army's 225th Birthday with a Flag Day salute-to-the-military.
Several other Minor League Baseball clubs will celebrate an Army Day with pre-game ceremonies. Birthday events include the San Bernardino Stampedes, Los Angeles Dodgers Class-A affiliate, on May 27th, with a mass swearing-in of new recruits; and the Lake Elsinore Storms Professional Baseball Team, Class-A affiliate of the Anaheim Angels, will celebrate the Army's Birthday on June 10th.
San Diego Flash A-League Soccer Club will recognize the Army's 225th Birthday with special pre-game festivities to be held June 24th at Douglas Stadium, Mesa College in San Diego.
