Blockbuster Inc. announced it will once again be a major sponsor of the LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC) Scholarship Fund at the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) national convention Friday. This is Blockbuster’s third year to sponsor the LNESC program, providing a $30,000 sponsorship each year.
“Blockbuster’s continued support of the LULAC National Scholarship Fund (LNSF) and LNESC demonstrates the company’s strong commitment to the Hispanic community,” said LNESC Executive Director Richard Roybal. “The funds Blockbuster has contributed will be matched by LULAC funds and will help more than 100 promising Hispanic students from around the country attend college, said Lorena Maymi, LNESC Scholarship Coordinator.
“We at Blockbuster are excited to continue our involvement with LULAC, providing college scholarship opportunities for deserving students,” said Blockbuster Vice President Ana Rivera, who addressed guests at LULAC’s annual Scholarship Breakfast in June. “Our LULAC sponsorship is part of the Company’s continued commitment to serving the neighborhoods where we do business.”
The LNESC and its LULAC National Scholarship Fund raise funds through donations from national corporations like Blockbuster. LNESC provides matching funds to local councils that raise funds in their area for scholarship awards. LULAC offers a variety of scholarships for high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate college students. Emphasizing the grass roots nature of the organization, the scholarship recipients are chosen by local LULAC Councils through essays, grades and school transcripts.
